Keyan, the A's, and a total hero

By hanssaunders, in X-Wing Battle Reports

Last night, I got the opportunity to run:

Keyan with PtL, B-Wing/E2, Kyle Katarn, Engine Upgrade

Two Green Squadron Pilots with Proton Rockets and Autothrusters

and a Bandit Squadron Pilot.

I played against Echo, Mauler Mithel, and Turr Phennir. Initially, Echo was incredibly troublesome. The cloaking/decloaking/2 bank business is brutal and makes Echo very, very hard to hit. I sent the Bandit up the middle into a fairly crowded asteroid field with Keyan a bit behind, and sent the GSPs around the right side to tear up the middle once things got heated. It worked out really well, though Echo bounced around quite a bit and nearly took the Bandit out on the first exchange. My opponent misplayed a maneuver and Echo overlapped one of my GSPs, freezing him to the spot in range of the other and he was the first to drop. Mauler went next (eaten alive by a single Proton Rockets), and then I spent the rest of the match chasing Turr around until he was cornered by all four of my ships. I have no idea how the Bandit managed to hang in through the entirety of the fight (even colliding with an asteroid and being attacked numerous times), but he was a total hero. I was really hoping he would get the last shot to take Turr out, but it was one of my GSPs.

The pilot I had the most trouble with was Keyan. B's are a bit tricky to fly, and that 2 K-Turn is tough to pull off when everything is so tight (though if I had been able to complete it on an early turn, I would have gotten Turr). Next week, I'm hoping to have my new copy of PtL in and Fire Control Systems so I can run Jake Farrell and Poe together and maybe try and incorporate Corran into another list. Love, love, love this game. Anyone an expert on flying Keyan? How is he best utilized, and who with?

I wish B-wings could take 2 modifications. Then, you could take BW/E2 and EU. I'd drop Kyle, as Keyan isn't helped much by focus with Ag 1. Maybe give him advanced sensors with the extra points.

I love rolling Kenyan with a HLC and Opertunist, Jan with a TLT and Wes.

Poe hates to see Wes and most large base builds get pounded.

Best advice is slow play make them come to you and chose targets.

I was recently introduced to this build: Farlander- PtL, adv sensors, EU.

Best B I've ever flown hands down (including the precog version). Being able to adjust your maneuver with pre-dial BR/boost then shed stress to modify attacks and rinse repeat is simply fantastic. Its probably the most flexible B wing build you'll come across.

You can shed stress via AS -> double action -> green reveal, retain stress via AS -> double action white reveal -> shoot, move -> double action -> stress shoot, or single action stress -> reveal K turn shoot etc.. just depending on the situation and regardless farlander is fully capable of ditching 2 stress a turn if needs be.

He's about as troublesome an arc dodger as you could come across.

Save 5 points and take just Stay on Target and Advanced Sensor and always perform a 2. Lets you K-turn too.

I have used that build and as good as it is, IMO the PtL/AS/EU build is superior. Both let you k turn. But as you say its a hefty investment.

I fiddled with this last night coupled with Solo and WOW Farlander is nuuuuuuuts. You can keep the two of them so tight because of Farlander's maneuverability and beat targets with eight attack dice, free stress focus treats, and Solo's rerolls. Awesome.
