Most Evil Thing To Do With A Tractor Beam

By Firespray-32, in X-Wing

For something so simple there's an awful lot of interaction with many of the game's range mechanics.

  • Classic article throw-ship-at-rock move.
  • Throw an ace into a debris cloud.
  • Drag Biggs away from the ship he was trying to shield.
  • Evict a ship from the YT-2400's donut hole.
  • C-3PNO (although they'll probably spend C-3PO on trying to dodge the tractor beam, which still takes out C-3PO for the round)
  • Toss Kyle Katarn into the Carnor Bubble.
  • Introduce someone to a Conner Net.
  • Reposition your foe in front of a line of Cluster Mines.
  • Drag an ioned ship up to the back end of a TIE bomber.
  • Drag a ship into Range 1 of your TIE defender.
  • Drag a ship into Range 1 of your TIE phantom.
  • Put a ship that dodged your procket Alpha Strike right back where it's meant to be.
  • Get Carnor the hell out of your way.
  • Drag an enemy away from their perfect shot.
  • Dump an enemy on a rock so they don't get any shot.
  • Drag all your enemies together and whack them with an Assault Missile.
  • Drag all your enemies together and whack them with an Ion Torpedo.
  • Drag all your enemies together, whack them with an Assault Missile, an Ion Torpedo, then drop a proton bomb on them next round.
  • Drag a Twin Laser Turret into Range 1 of your most powerful ships.

From the comments:

  • Introduce a ship to the front end of a Raider.
  • Introduce a ship to the board edge.
  • Bring N'Dru/Lone Wolf guy into range 2 of one of his buddies.
  • Drag a ship into Range 1 of your Talonbane Cobra.
  • Move someone into a stressed 4-Lom's bubble.

  • Have it on an IG-88 on the 2nd cannon slot (using the other cannon for something else)... and never use it

  • Moving a ship with deadman switch into range one of another hostile.

  • Have your EPT Defender tractor a ship within range one of another ship, then resolve Ruthlessness. Twice.

Any more?

you mean Carnor's bubble of suck? see below.

Move an enemy ship in front of an Epic ship.

You forgot, "Boost/Barrel roll someone into a position in which they have no choice but to fly off the board next turn". That's downright disgusting.

Edit: I do believe as others have said they changed the boost and barrel roll rules in prep of this card. My god the havok if you could barrel roll someone right off the board, thinking ahead on this one.

I bet this is the main reason they don't let you do a bank boost.

What about barrel-rolling Howlrunner away from half her guppies?

That is downright awesome. Edge huggers will have to adapt and it will add a peril to using that strategy. TB might level this game in a way nothing ever has. It is glorious offensive control, can't wait to put this thing on a firespray.

True large ships are most likely to do it but tlt can hug some edges too and I've seen bombers do it to stay at range, soontir does it for the same reason. It's not a huge thing but will be fun none the less to force a range maxxer to tighten his sphincter a little. :)

Did anyone else notice that you can't use the soft 1 template to barrel roll someone affected by the tractor beam? You have to use the 1 straight template.

Allowing facing changes (that is, allowing the opposing player to rotate my ships by 45 degrees) would make it way, way too easy to knock people off the board. Allowing translation only is a balancing mechanism.

Also should be fun ruining TLT range control with Tractor Beams.

I actually have no idea if you can't push someone directly off the board if he's close enough. If you can push people over asteroids, this might as well work... Not sure though!

Played a game against a Tractor beam Tie/D yesterday. As far as running it on other ships, it's a tough call as you are giving up your usual shot, but Tie/D is just disgussssting with it.

The crazy thing is that you have to make every single maneuver with it in mind. I was pretty sure I was getting back into the game (I was behind), and I turn a ship perfectly around a rock so I have some nice cover on my broad side.

Nope. Awful idea. My opponent beamed me and then had the choice of either rolling me onto a rock or pulling me into range 1 of his other ships, AND his Vessery got another shot.

Just nasty. Down right nnnaaaaasty.

Make it such an awesome upgrade people have to buy 5 fugly mist hunters to get some use out of the syck.

Exactly I can see where you could set it up to be at range and then drag your target to range one with target lock re-rolls. Or drop someone so they are only just barely touching an asteroid forcing them to go through it a second time the next round. with less agility a range one shot and a possibility of two rounds on an asteroid could really hurt some people.

Have it on an IG-88 on the 2nd cannon slot (using the other cannon for something else)... and never use it!

All those manoeuvers that your opponent will do to compensante for a tractor beam will make up the 1 point in no time ;)

(Not the most damaging, but I would rate it highly on the evil, really disgusting scum thing to do, especially if you remind your opponent of it casually)

Not sure how you're going to run 10 Scyks or why you'd run Tracs on all of them, although I'm surprised Imperial Veterans isn't in consideration.

yeah 2 come in mist hunter 1 in Vets, so...

Move it into the arc of one of your buddies.

Move it directly into range of someone who can Ion it.

Introduce someone to a proximity mine.

Move someone out of the bubble of someone like Howlrunner, Garvin, Dutch, Lando, Cracken, etc.

Bring N'Dru/Lone Wolf guy into range 2 of one of his buddies.

Move someone into a stressed 4-Lom's bubble.

- Drag Turr Phennir back into arc

- Align an enemy with an obstacle so they have to go over it if they k-turn

- Align an enemy with a higher PS large base so they can't k-turn at all

- Drag Garven Dries/Arien Cracken/Howlrunner/Serissu out of range of their allies

- reduce a phantom's decloak options (same for BB8)

I do very much hope that we'll be able to tractor our own ships. I think it would be dumb to build a list around the idea, but having that option would be _evil_.

Have your EPT Defender tractor a ship within range one of another ship, then resolve Ruthlessness. Twice.

"tractor/barrel roll his half of the pizza onto my dish"

then, shoot for the coke/beer/wine.

enjoy an epic win :D

Okay i got the most evil thing you can do with tractor beam:

To Range 1, where i can smear you all over my windscreen, darn TLT!
