Mos Espa Home base

By Ruakar, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

I have been wanting to make a map for my players Home base the past few weeks. Today i finally just did it! Though unpainted (which i will do later one piece at a time) here it is. We have three ladies in our group and as GM i learned very early on they like to explore everywhere and open everything... hence the amount of detail in the buildings and surrounding areas. There is a hideout Under the Cantina... which i have not done yet.

Also the, map is designed to be tiled on all four sides, and yes... i made all the interiors of important buildings.. but they lack furniture (will do it later).

Hope you all enjoy

You are amazing! It's how fast you churn these things out!

I would pay you commission for some maps, if you're interested?

I love the colours you've chosen. That place looks genuinely grotty. Well done!

Loving this and can't wait to see the final picture!

You are very talented. I can't wait to see the final product.

Is your process: draw on paper, scan, color on computer?

Very cool. Very fitting.

I'm a detail person myself, so as a GM, I can appreciate this -- even if some of my fellow bros are constantly..."polishing their guns" in impatient anticipation of the slaughter.

Yes. love too. I am always available for commissions. When not working i usually just doodle ideas for my own players. I do Character concepts , game space maps , Interiors , ships obviously... (the HWK-290 thread) and world maps. Anything you need, hit me up on PM.

Vondy... The Espa map was drawn on the computer in photoshop, then set the paint brush to 50% opacity and painted over the lines with various colors. Nothing complex, at the time i was devoting all of my brain power (limited as it is) into making a fun game space for my players to explore.

Very cool, and thank you for taking a moment to satisfy my art geekery. I can't draw with a mouse and an electronic drawing tablet isn't in the budget, so I'd have to do the lines "old school." But, I could scan, drop the white, and then add a paint layer. The map looks great, btw.

Yoink! ;)

As a former art school guy now working in a corporate environment, I really miss drawing, painting and making maps. I used to do stuff like this all the time - I even sold some to Catalyst Game Labs - but my time is so tight now that it's impossible.

Your Mos Espa maps look really great. What are you using for reference? Or are you just drawing from memory?

I needed a few key locations on a digestible map for my players... It honestly started while looking at photos of the set shooting episode 4... but its all covered in sand and pretty indistinguishable, then found a cut-away drawing of watto's shop. Drawing a circle for that first, i then just organically added in more rooms and more buildings based off a list i already had from my players on what was needed. The map was considerably smaller when i started it that morning, but it kept needing to be bigger and bigger to add in all of the locations. Honestly i find it convenient that all the places they frequent are with in a 4 city block radius, but i might do a larger less detailed map later to illustrate the larger city area. (Watto's shop...i dont mean its Watto's shop, it was just used to inspire due to its unique architecture)

As to the map making, i tend to agree... I love to help my players really understand a space, (some are imaginationally challenged) and i think it makes for less discussions like (Player: Im going to run over there and punch him in the head. GM: no thats too far, Player: I will run really fast.)

When we did the campaign "the outer rim" I Redid all the maps and embellished a little bit. I hate the idea of circular tube like space stations... Seem very cli·ché and not very "Star Wars" so i decided to put Reom's offices and the rest of the station inside the still working husk of a Trade Federation droid ship and inside they constructed docking stations, shops and living areas. It was a lot of fun and the players seemed to really buy into it because they had already seen it... Here is the finished Data pad image i did that was a hand out to all the players. Yep i stole the Data pad frame from an image from inside the book.. I really wanted to focus on the map and not waste my time on a data pad. If you look close you can see i redrew the suggested play space map from the book but curved it to fit along the arched interior of the station.

The original landing location was the same as the campaign suggested at the start. but Reom (in our version) owns the large hanger and traditionally one of the openings of the droid control ships two mandibles... as they work with him, they just park there when they come to visit. Sorry for the long post.

Unfortunately, I have run out of positive votes for the day, so I literally cannot “like” this post enough.

But I did see some pretty cool stuff at http://s410.photobucket.com/user/Ruak7/library/

So, what the HELL is “WarSkin”?!? And why does it scare the crap out of me just sitting there on the page?!?
