I know some lucky people were able to grab them at I believe it was gencon, but they have yet to show up on this site or to order through local shops. I was looking forward to adding both to my collection. I know when the first two were annouced they were available to order through FFG immediately and through area distributers within a week. I'm hoping these are available soon.
Whatever happened to the Cloud City and Death Star II playmats?

This is wildly inaccurate.
They weren't at Gencon, they were at Worlds. They were on sale at Worlds, there was just a special imprinted one for the World Champ.
Apparently they won't be on sale till later in the year. I think I heard on Nova, August or some such (but I find it pretty hard to believe they would make us wait that long). I don't remember the exact details.
So in answer to your question, they are coming, but probably not anytime soon.
I played on one last night! 
I've played on the Cloud City one, it is beautiful. Will be very tempting deciding if I want to drop $40 to get one whenever they're finally available.

They do pretty well. Just don't slide stuff from one side to the other, make sure you pick it up and then put it back down.

I don't have a Cloud City version image handy. Does it have one black edge so you could seamlessly mate the Death Star I mat to it? I would find that pleasingly ominous.

I was just wondering about the mats. Good to know they're coming. Though I find myself hoping for Cloud Cars to go with the Bespin mat. It looks like a low orbit/high atmosphere gaming area rather than the typical space mat.

Hmm. Not sure about the top left corner in this image ... but I think we can easily overlook any slight image discontinuity in one corner to have the Death Moon rising over beautiful Bespin...

I believe that both current FFG mats are tournament legal so I'd assume the next two will be too.

The Bespin mat and the DSII mat both have two black edges apiece so that they can be comboed with the starfield mat.
I purchased both mats at worlds...they are amazing and fit together with the star map and look amazing...if I can figure out to post pics I'll show.....my understanding is that they wI'll be on sale around April of this year...

did the first death star ever visit bespin? it's about to on my coffee table.
The Bespin matt sure looks awesome, but it is just me, or does the scale of Cloud City make it look a bit odd? Maybe it's not a scale issue, but I guess I didn't realize Cloud City was in low orbit upper-atmosphere?
