VERY Well Done (Return to Hoth)

By Bomba101, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

I haven't been here long enough to say I'm a veteran of FFG. I usually only stick with the Star Wars games, and I hope to pick up the Star Wars LCG for my birthday next month.

I think its fair to say that I am new enough to be amazed at the quality and quantity of the expansion released last month. Return to Hoth is FANTASTIC, and I only just got it today. I believe that I was skeptic due to the problematic video game industry in which many games tend to be underwhelming, and I am glad to say that not all entertainment industries are entirely corrupt. I cannot wait for more major content.

P.S. I don't have any pictures to show you, and I don't plan to.

Have anybobdy played the campaign yet and can comment on how good it is?

I'm about halfway through: the missions feel new mechanically (which is good) and the narrative is a bit more solid imo (which you may or may not care about).

We've played 2 story missions and 1 side mission so far. The campaign seems solid. And the new heroes have performed very well. So far we've stayed ahead of the Imperium's Subversive Tactics but lets see if we can keep it that way.

I have to agree that I like this expansion feels quite nice. I've also noted that the figures seem higher quality than in the base game. They have less gaps and most of them don't need any green stuff. At least the gaps aren't big enough that I would care. In the base game, Gideon for example had a horrendous gap between the shoulder and arm that I had to be filled with green stuff.

Has anyone tried the 4 player skirmish? We're interested to try that too but I think our weekly game nights go to the campaign.

I killed Luke with a Wampa...so its all gravy from here on out.

I have played through the campaign.

It was very enjoyable. The balance felt pretty good - no luck fest Fly Solo's or one sided affairs like A New Threat. I felt that in missions that were fairly favored onez way, the secondary objective was at least very achieveable so full wins/losses were rare (only happened just we royally screwed up how to approach the mission). In all of my games of Last Stand, it was very close but The finale here was a not so close rebel win. But we will have to see after playing it more.

The narrative is slightly tighter, mostly because of the fixed interlude and finale.

All 3 new heroes are pretty awesome.

Is the finale more balanced? To me it seemed like the finales for the core and TS are not.

I felt like the Vader finale was balanced. I played 3 campaigns, all of them were very close rebel victories with that finale. But, gone is a finale like the Weiss finale.

The Hoth finale is in the same vein as the Vader finale. My perception is slightly skewed as I played Vader, who then did NOTHING.

I will also say that MHD-19 is a character that will skew the experience.

For example, his lack of dps hurts you significantly in the first story mission (rebels won but just barely).

But he is an absolute rockstar like no other in Return to Echo Base (the Interlude).

That is one thing to consider and to take my earlier comments with a grain of salt.

Anyone have any luck with the Return to Echo Base mission?

I was able to get both Banes off of the table which seemed to help, but that mission feels nigh impossible for the Rebels with the threat level going up every round.
