Wave 10: We may need to start scraping.

By KCDodger, in X-Wing

Stuff like the Mist Hunter , Dengar's jumpship, the K-Wing, TIE Punisher, the Raider, and all of these "SWG" ships? They feel like bloat. And not just bloat, but *bad* bloat.

On the contrary, I have been waiting for the Mist Hunter since wave 1. Heck, since a year before wave 1 even hit when the game was first announced! It's not bloat to me -- it's the climax of the game!

Verity ain't bloat... we know it to be true.

:)

Yeah, but look at your profile pic...

As for the rest of us? Yeah, Zuckuss and 4-LOM were "the other bounty hunters in the background." Nowhere near as iconic as Boba Fett, Bossk, and IG-88.

Umm, pretty certain that if you are fan of the ESB bounty hunters beyond Fett, you are a fan of all them equally.

IG-88 featured heavily in the Shadows of the Empire N64 game and comics(don't remember the novel...), and thus has way more exposure than the others that aren't Boba Fett. Bossk though is in there with the third tier guys whose names you wouldn't know without digging deeper into the EU.

I am still pretty sure a few more of these will show up...

:)

I'll grant you the YT-2000 might be cool. It would feel a bit like overkill with the game already having two (much more iconic) "fat turrets."

...but, yeah, the YT-2000 would be cool.

Something to keep in mind, new movies does not necessarily mean a great deal of new ships. Especially ships that we can play in standard X-wing.

aNH = 4 small base ships (X,Y, Tie, Adv) and 1 large base (MF)

ESB = 1 small base ship (Bomber) and 1 large base (Slave1)

RotJ = 3 small base ship (A,B, Int) and 1 large base (Shuttle)

tFA = 3? small base (T10, Tie/FO, Tie/SF?) and ? large base (Kylo's shuttle has some guns but good lordy it's unwieldy)

I am still pretty sure a few more of these will show up...

I loved Alliance but can live without the ol' Hot Dog in a Vice. (Can't unsee that)

Just fyi... Bossk (and his ship Hound's Tooth ) was a pretty big deal in the "Shadows of the Empire" comicbook series that arrived alongside both the novel and the game.

Also, as someone who saw all of the OT in the theaters as a kid? Bossk and IG-88 appeared in trading cards and toy form alongside Boba Fett earlier - and way more often - than Dengar, Zuckuss, and 4-LOM. (And I'm sure most of you know the story about how Zuckuss and 4-LOM's names got mixed up in the action figure line...)

Bossk shows up in several episodes of the Clone Wars, with adolescent Boba. Also, Dengar is Simon Pegg.

It would be interesting to survey all new players and see why they joined the game.

I argue that many joined because it was Star Wars first and a fun game second. But at what point do ships become so obscure that the game stops being Star Wars.

Disclaimer: I understand that the term 'Star Wars' means different things to different folk. I would argue that outside of the die hard fans, many 'fans' wouldn't recognise a lot of the ships in recent waves. The iconic ships have all been developed. I also think it is why they put a bomber in the new vets pack.

Hm. All I remember from the comic really is IG-88 blasting the Slave 1 to bits. I stand corrected.

All I know is we're definitely getting a Scum Huge ship or two, and one of them had better be the Wild Kaarde.

No worries, Otacon. "Shadows of the Empire" was a long time ago...

Yeah, IG-88 sends a drone (another IG-2000 ) to ambush Fett above Tatooine. Then the droid hyperspaces in behind Fett with the real(?) IG-2000 , blasting away. The Slave 1 is damaged, but Fett uses the intertial dampeners to pull a Tom Cruise move, and the IG-2000 goes right into his sights. Bam! It's destroyed along with IG-88. (I have to assume Dash Rendar wasted another one of the supposed four models on Ord Mantell in the video game version of "SotE.")

This all happens in the first issue.

The remaining issues deal with Fett trying to get his ship repaired and get back to Tatooine without losing his bounty (Solo's frozen form). Bossk, working with an entirely inept crew of hunters that include Zuckuss and 4-LOM, continues to hound Fett in the Hound's Tooth . We even witness the initial version of the Rashtah Pup . (Spoiler alert: It's not a Z-95 Headhunter.)

In the end, Boba Fett kills/destroys 4-LOM, makes Zuckuss look like a freaking idiot, and eludes Bossk.

Dengar is nowhere to be seen.

Since everyone else is ignoring the prequel ships as options in these rants (aside from the likes on my post, always appreciated), I figure I'll ask a constructive question: If FFG released Republic and Separatist fighters, do you think they would count as separate groups? Would they try to connect the Republic with the Resistance and Separatists with the Empire? I'm not sure I'm convinced either way, though I'd be up for adding two new factions to the game.

The TIE/sf? You mean that TFA TIE that looks almost exactly like the TIE/fo, which looks almost exactly like the TIE/ln, which already had one repaint with the Gozanti?

And here I was thinking you were against redundancy Captain! :P

WEll then you clearly aren't very familiar with the TIE/SF. It's an extremely different ship in terms of capabilities, and offers far more than the TIE/FO.

I'm very familiar with it Lackwit. And it looks almost exactly like the other TIEs I mentioned.

Tying into my first post on this thread (page 5), I do agree that FFG will need to eventually abandon the OT.

But the way Disney is running things? I'd be incredibly surprised to see FFG go back to the prequel ships as opposed to TFA and beyond.

That said, I would love to see Clone Wars-era ships. In two *separate* factions that cannot coexist with the three current factions.

Agreed entirely. I love the prequel ship designs, and would happily buy minis of ARC-170s, Jedi Starfighters, LAATs, Vulture Droids. Hyena Bombers, Trifighters et al, but I would definitely rather they be kept as a separate range from the OT stuff. Make the rules compatible, so you could play them together if you had a good reason too, but keep them as two distinct games. That gets around the fact that the prequel ships should basically be worse than the OT stuff (there's a reason they were replaced, after all) by allowing them to be balanced against each other, not necessarily the OT/TFA stuff.

None of these pictures have a DX-9, Escort shuttle or Muurian...

I've seen a couple of people talk about not having ships filling the same role or doing the same thing because it would be too much and later coming back suggesting aces packs & repaint of ships that are already out... that confuses me to no end.

Having ships that fly the same but have a different model is bad and chokes the game out, but having ships that fly the same & have the EXACT SAME MODEL in a different color is a good thing?

...and before anyone says anything about putting fixes in the repaint packs, couldn't they do the same thing in the new ships? Personally, I'd rather buy a new hunk of plastic that represents a new ship than get my 13th X-Wing or 16th TIE fighter....

I disagree. They don't just package fixes in Aces/Veterans packs.

They also package brand new ships. Such as the TIE Shuttle. No seriously, it has a lot in common with the TIE Bomber, but it ain't a TIE Bomber , y'know..?

They give us a lot of options. I like- no, love these packs. It gives me a reason to not just buy a duplicate, but a really cool, visually distinct duplicate that also gives me new ways to play it.

New pilots for old ships is never a bad thing.

But redundant ships most certainly are. This is why the Dunelizard is going to have such a hard time finding its place in the game- because it and the Ixiyen fil the Kekrax's role. (which was ACTUALLY a light interceptor.)

Using your TIE Bomber example... I truly love the fact that we're getting the TIE Shuttle card, don't get me wrong, but FFG could very easily made some minor reach lot changes to the bomber & given us the Tie Shuttle & Tie Boarding Shuttle as a new ship with some upgrade cards useable for the TIE Bomber. This would have released new upgrades, a new play mechanic, & a completely unique variant instead of "Let's take a TIE Bomber & paint a stripe on it."

There is a place for aces, veteran, & reprint packs... I love 'em & buy 'em myself, but sometimes with a little twist & outside the box thinking, you can do more.

Do you think with the release of the force awakens core set and now moving into episode 7 ships with the t-70 and the tie/fo and now with wave 8 being the ghost and the scum ships, aren't they from the future universe? As in episode 7 and beyond?

I get the feeling ffg, might not back in time to make the ships from the clone wars, and the Jedi star fighters for example...

Although... Tbh, if they made an obi-wan kenobi ship I would be running it hands down all the time. I don't care if it's the worst ship ever!!!

Right, it does, but if the TIE/fo got a new model (and it did, it's not just a repainted TIE/ln) then OF COURSE the TIE/sf will get one.

(Spoiler alert: It's not a Z-95 Headhunter.)

This was the one that kind of looked like a Mac truck and had a chain gun looking cannon on top, right?

Of course it will. And I'm about as excited for it as I was for the TIE/fo, and I'll probably buy as many of them as I bought TIE/fo expansions. (a grand total of none, because between the original Core Set, the Wave 1 expansion and the Gozanti I've already got all the standard TIE Fighters I need).

But here's the point: I'm not saying that FFG shouldn't produce the TIE/sf because I personally am not interested in buying one - that's riduclous, people want to see it in the game, it's an easy sell following the Force Awakens, of course they should produce it. I just won't buy it when they do.

Unfortunately, quite a few posters seem to want to approach things from the opposite direction - "I don't want {insert so-and-so ship here}, so FFG shouldn't produce it". Which is a pretty selfish attitude to take.

Ha. Yep.

Lemme fix the title for you.

Wave 10: We're going to have to start scraping our wallets now.

Edit: Oh haha. I went and actually read the thread looking for ships and realized I too am stupid! Hahaha! Oh, that's funny. Haha... Whoops!

I would kill for an IA+Xwing campaign.

Rather see an Armada+IA+RPG+X Wing campaign. Get in all of those Star Wars FFG products.
