New Rey Theory (spoilers (as if anyone hasn't seen FA yet))

By mazz0, in X-Wing

He had met her awhile before though, remember he tried getting information out of her but she resisted him with the force?

I thought it was pretty heavily implied he knows her. Note that in the scene where the officer reports bad news, he doesn't destroy the console when he's told the droid escaped, but when he's told there was a girl with it.

Problem with the Rey theories is that anything can work, and pretty much everyone has them. I think it's best just to wait till the next movie.

Hell. it's not impossible that she is a clone/descendant of Bastilla/Satele Shan.

Or she was a baby in cryo storage for a few thousand years.

Or she is a genetic offspring of vader/palp/luke/mace windu/random jedi #5.

Or part of some Imperial force experiment.

All we really know is that she is strong in the force, and was left on a desert planet somewhere. There is just too much blank to reasonably fill in right now.

I don't think thats a problem :D gives us something to look forward in the following movies.

Oh that's true.

My point I suppose is that one cannot expect any degree of accuracy.

We're spitballing here.

But most importantly, the film has succeeded in giving us the feeling that Rey's parentage is important.

Or not important at all.

This doesn't automatically make it important in the movie. That is an entirely different matter.

And yet, major events in Starkiller's life have already been changed by Star Wars: Rebels.

In The Force Unleashed, Starkiller helps form the Rebel Alliance 2 years before Episode IV.

In Rebels, the Rebel Alliance is active 5 years before Episode IV.

[/i

Starkiller would be a terrible choice, because most people don't even know he ever existed, and Rebels completely overwrites The Force Unleashed.

The Rebel Alliance doesn't exist yet in the SW Rebels TV show, and again if it were, thats only one detail that would be different, just one change doesn't destroy the entire piece of work, as was basically said by LFL.

I bet you most SW fans know who Star Killer is. Also if by having unknown characters in a story causes it to be ruined, then I guess the whole new cast just ruined SWep7 since I had no idea who most of them were before going to the movie. To be honest with you I did hate Finn and Rey. Poe and Darth Caedus were good.

At this point Rey has more characteristic, both physical and personality wise, that make them more likely to be related than Skywalker and Rey. I guess it would be mostly ok if she were related to Old Ben, problem maybe though is that he has grayish-blue eyes.

Please don't call him Darth Caedus.

If the new canon books and comics are showing me anything, it's that the new LucasFilm Story Group / Disney really have no interest in adhering to EU Legends beyond world building and fan service minor characters.

Naming the new weapon "Starkiller" in the film shows that the script writers are primarily in charge and will not be held to the past. It would be ridiculous to name this thing "Starkiller" and then have a character show up with the same name. If the film getting the third highest gross ever should tell you anything, it is that these films are not *primarily* targeted solely at you, the hard core Star Wars fan with encyclodpedic knowledge of every book written over the past 20 years. The scope is larger, the beats broader, the goal to be more engaging, not navel gazing. Books and comics will dig deep into lore - and again, they are already overwriting huge swaths of "Legends"

I mean for all we know Rey is Kylo's father's brother's nephew's cousin's former roommate.

I may be misremembering, but I don't think he destroys a console in that scene. He pulls the officer's neck into his hand and asks "what girl" or something like that, then it cuts away doesn't it?

Speak for yourself! I have yet to see anyone react in the sense of "why is everybody speculating about Rey? Is it important who her parents were?"

This doesn't automatically make it important in the movie. That is an entirely different matter.

Actually, even though I put forward this Palpatine idea, myself and others in this thread have said we hope she's not actually related to any known characters and that the point of her missing family is simply that she has a missing family. I suppose you could argue that that means it's important by virtue of being unimportant, but I think that's a bit of a stretch.

I might be wrong on the specifics. I just remember getting a strong impression it mattered to him more than it should have.

I thought it was strange how randomly angry he got just because he heard it was a girl. Maybe he's just sexist? Or horny?

Here is my theory: Rey is lukes daughter. Rey was trained as a jedi as a young padawan, and when Kylo went bonkers, Luke wiped her mind and stuck her on Jakku. That explains how she could fight, use mind tricks and other jedi powers. She is remembering her training.

Oh man the mind wipe, that made me think of a totally bonkers theory.

What if snoak didn't just corrupt one pupil, but 2? What if rey was also being turned, but she was young enough for luke to 'save' her, but kylo was too old.

That would make her akin to Revan and kylo is malek.

That's not how The Force works!

Thankyou @Budgernaut for liking that post, I was disappointed nobody else did :P

But, Revan was a man!

No she wasn't!

But he/she was evil!

No he/she wasn't!

****, I still remember when revan was revealed.... and omg.... that was 13 years ago. Why am I so old!

Still one of the best video game moments for me.

KOTOR was great, NWN (A game with which KOTOR shared an engine) was also amazing.

I Actually to this day wish that Kotor kept the aurora editor that Neverwinter nights used.

****... the amount of 4AM sleeps to that game I had.

I just wish they'd make a KotoR 3 where it's revealed what happened after Reven left. I think it might have already been covered in comics or in the Old Republic MMO, but I've no interest in reading or playing those. I want a new single player KotoR so much!

I'd like battlefront to have a single player campaign...

I'm confused now, I don't know who thinks what :S

I thought that reveal was telegraphed too easily. Waking up with amnesia? Big bad disappeared. Kotor was a mediocre game at best - a combination of very predictable plot, very few memorable characters, Lightsabers that bounces off of enemies, because in the old republic everything was made if cortosis (tech limitations on the games part), and the bad guys forces were far too reminiscent of the original film, in look and sound - a lack of creativity from an era that should have had ships carved from the corpses of giant insects. Oh, and. Lightsaber crystals that were interchangeable and just provided level up bonuses. On second thought, it isn't a mediocre game, it is a poor version of D&D in space.
