New Rey Theory (spoilers (as if anyone hasn't seen FA yet))

By mazz0, in X-Wing

So, I know the prevailing theory is that Rey is Luke's daughter, but having just come out of my third viewing I noticed something. Who does she most seem to share a fighting style with? That poking stabbing action she does with her lightsaber is very reminiscent of Palpatine!

i dont think lightsaber fighting is genetic

...but what's the theory?

I have heard that theory. Would be actually really cool, but I doubt it. Although, the script for 8 is supposed to be darker, so maybe a really conflicting backstory would fit into the picture. Impossible to tell for now, but something to keep in the back of your head.

Bad guy is son of the heroes of the rebellion, good guy is the daughter of the villain.

I could see that, her age doesn't really seem to line up though.

I hadn't thought about it but you could be right. Just got back from my first viewing. It was like a private showing. Less than a dozen people.

On reflection I'm not sure about the Palpatine connection. He was one ugly mf towards the end. Can't think of anyone who would willingly bed that beast.

Who knows for sure and if the fans guess well there's not guarantee that they won't change the script just before shooting. It has been done in other shows.

I always thought that Han made the most sense for "the other" and thought Leia was kind of pulling a relationship out of thin air.

Think about it? The kissing, the who is she going to fall for, etc... Someone changed gears on that one.

Who WOULDN'T cleave the Sheev?

Maybe there was no mother!

i dont think lightsaber fighting is genetic

Maybe not. Maybe it's carried in the midiclorians.

That's a new one for me.

I think she is Luke's daughter or a clone of his dead wife.

OR

Supreme Leader Snoke was a rolling stone after he was a Royal Guard to Palpatine and... had a Force bastard-baby.

AND

Who is the mommy? Maybe Luke n Leia did more than that kiss. ;)

I think Rey is Boba's daughter. It makes sense if you think about it.

She'd have to be Palp's granddaughter (or grand-granddaughter), just like Angry Emo is Vader's grandchild. It would be a pretty cool plot twist, much better than "good guy offspring".

Here is my theory: Rey is lukes daughter. Rey was trained as a jedi as a young padawan, and when Kylo went bonkers, Luke wiped her mind and stuck her on Jakku. That explains how she could fight, use mind tricks and other jedi powers. She is remembering her training.

Well, that theory makes more sense than the one where Boba Fett is Snoke...

I assume something like this; though I'd wager Kylo put her on Jakku after he wimped out on the whole "kill the younglings" thing.

Rey's fighting style?

It's Star Wars, they can easily brush aside so pedestrian a concern as relative times. Maybe she was frozen for a while. Maybe after Palpatinw used the same life creating power that was used to creaste Anakin there was a delay before it kicked in (perhaps caused by his death). Perhaps he's not dead.

Thank god!

I love the lightsaber fights in FA, second best after RotJ!

Rey's fighting style?

Well no, actually, not when she uses a lightsaber. I actually thought it odd how her unique style seems to have no similarity to staff fighting, but then given that staff fighting involves a long, heavy object that you can hold at any point and rest on surfaces without penetrating them I suppose lightsaber fighting (even double bladed) doesn't actually have much in common with it.

I would agree but...

Luke put her there after Ben/Kylo killed all of the other Jedi. He knew the force would someday be strong with her and that she would either have to turn or be killed. Hiding her was for her safety.

Besides that's what happened in the first two Star Wars (ANH and ESB) and since this is a remake/reboot/redo it makes even more sense.

"You WILL find me attractive..." *waves hand*

"I...I WILL find you attractive..."

She's a force-baby. Mom was probably a rando.
