Yes, all war is based on politics. But we can all differentiate between real world and fictional.

What's wrong with talking about politics and religion? How are we supposed to progress as a species if we consider taboo talking about two of the most important subjects in the world?

The solution is simple, Vanor even implied it.

Don't make a topic asking people specifically not to do something. Even if they don't, the topic still has no further purpose.

I was being constructive. I first pointed out that the people running the podcast are more likely to want feedback then have people simply stop listening with no idea why.

Then I was constructive in pointing out what a foolish and nonsense statement you made to everyone reading this thread.

Everything has a place. X-Wing is not the right place to discuss politics.

On the other hand bars can be a good place for such discussion in my experience. History is on my side with that - early German parties were named after the bar in which the held meetings. Although, thinking about that further, that might have been why our democracy failed 2-3 times befor becoming stable, with maybe a little bit of engulfing the world in war and genocide. Hey, that could have happened to anyone, right?

Just heard the new mynock podcast episode. Love the show, Aaron Bonar interview was great but, at the end of the show while trying to explain a psychological effect of the brain and misinformation they brought up Donald Trump supporters. Please I beg you in the future treat X wing like a bar... No politics and no religion. Look forward towards the next show.

Not dumb, misinformed. Many years of cultural mockery tend to make people forget how capable he actually is. Can't stump the Trump.

I basically forgot he existed sometime around 2008 and was only made aware of him again when his candidacy started. Everything I dislike about him has come from this campaign. Based entirely on things he has said and done since he started running for president, I would have to describe him as a bully. Every time I see him react to criticism, he does so by insulting and belittling the person that criticized him without actually addressing their issues. At about six minutes into this video, he repeatedly tells security to take a protester's coat and then kick him out. He doesn't have to let people protest at his rallies but that's just childish.

No I'm saying that if someone posts something saying 'hey can we keep politics out of X-Wing' people should have enough self control to not bring politics up in the very thread.

They should especially have the self control to not sling uncalled for insults at other people.

Perhaps I did misread your post, but it sounded to me like you were defending people who did that. If that was not your intent, then I apologize for misunderstanding what you were saying.

I will not however apologize for heaping scorn on people who behave in the manner I mention above.

thanks for making this politics thread op, i have some real strong opinions and there wasnt a thread to talk about them in until now.

Dee here. atkrull does have a point. I was, in fact, hesitant to use the example of Trump's staying power. It was just too on point to pass on.

1) I didn't discuss Trump's political views.

2) I just pointed out that his supporters (by and large) are not uninformed, but rather misinformed.

3) The misinformation are simple things that can readily and easily be fact checked.

4) If Trump supporters here refuse to acknowledge #3, all it does is provide further evidence of the psychological phenomenon I was discussing.

The massive impediment to "knowing yourself" is our continual campaign to prevent ourselves from knowing ourselves. Breaking through our illusions is difficult and painful, and I made the judgment call to use this example. I'll definitely endeavor to avoid politics on the podcast in the future, but I personally am making no guarantees or apologies.

That said, I just used religion with Star Wars recently:
