Gunner has no effect on Tractor Beam. Tractor Beam is a secondary weapon (cannon) while Gunner allows you to immediately fire your primary if your shot (either primary or secondary) misses.
So, the tractor beam
I'm aware of that.
The question is whether it's worth stacking gunner with the tractor beam so that you're not wasting firepower on missed TB shots. The cheapness of the TB would suggest that it's worth having gunner as an insurance, where you wouldn't bother if equipped with the mangler or HLC.
It's win win. Either they spend tokens to stop the TB and leave themselves open for the gunner shot - or they don't (or it gets through anyway) and you get to splumph them into an asteroid.
When are we going to see tractor beam on Epic ships? Personally, I think we should house rule them in immediately. Would it be too much to make a TB a Limited cargo upgrade and require one energy to fire?
Since the preview threads tend to get a little flooded, I thought I'd start a separate thread just for the tractor beam.
What does everyone think, broken, or just about right for 1 point?
Will it help the poor Scyk at all?
What ships will it be best on?
Scyk tractor spam, push small ships off the game board!
Question about the Decimator and R3 shots with the Tractor Beam.....
If I hit a Decimator at R3 with the Tractor Beam, does it get any defense dice for the rest of the turn?
Tractor Beam reduces Agility to 0, which it already is. Decimator gets 1 green die from range.
Someone local was saying that getting 1 green die from range isn't getting an Agility and it's Agility already is zero.
That person is probably thinking of 'adding and reducing values', which this is not. You simply "roll one additional defense dice" at range 3 vs a primary weapon.
Sounds like that someone local actually read the rules. What a cheater!
Tractor tokens reduce agility, Decimator already has agility 0, it can't go below zero. The bonus defense die at range 3 has nothing to do with agility. If someone attacks with a primary weapon, he gets the bonus defense die.

I would almost like to see a different beam mechanic for huge ships. For example, you'd expect a Raider to be able to tractor Beam the Millennium Falcon. And since Epic tends to be a bit more casual (I think), they could make it a little bit more powerful. Plus, you're limited in how many you can take because of the Epic Points limit.

Could amend the rules to allow a tractor beam on a Huge ship to affect large base ships as well. I would probably use the large-ship B-Roll technique for the 1 forward boost as well. i.e. use the long side of the template so the boost is the same in all three directions.
Maybe even let a Huge ship TB move a small ship using the 2 straight template.
I hope that this ship comes with a couple of tractor beam upgrade cards. I like the upgrade, but the Mist Hunter looks like a turd.

Can you push an enemy ship out of the battlefield?
Nope. A ship cannot boost or barrel roll if it causes it to flee the battlefield.
I know ... and that's why I feel like the tractor beam isn't good enough. I feel like it needs one of two things:
1) The ability to move a small ship each time a tractor beam hits (assuming you have a swarm with tractor beams) and not just the first time a tractor beam hits as stated on the card.
or
2) The ability to push enemies off the board/battlefield using the forced barrel roll or boost.
Give us 1 or 2 (but not both) and I'll put tractor beams on all kinds of ships.

Take a look at the card fan in the article. Two copies. I'm glad the ship isn't spectacular, means I can get by with just one.

I think it will come with the Scum Epic ship, started a discussion here on it:

I think it's inevitable as we finally got Huge ship Ion cannons with the Raider.

Good lord. either of those things would be grossly overpowered and EXTREMELY unfun to play against,
I'ts broken, and anyone who thinks otherwise is one of the ******* type players whos been waiting for an abusive card.
First, Any ability that affects your opponents ship, needs to cost more than 1 measly point.
Second, the issue that you "give up damage" is not actually accurate, nor is it valid. If you can maneuver them onto an obstacle (which this ability will likely be mostly used for) You still have a chance of dealing damage, and you prevent them from attacking, which can be Far more beneficial than getting 1 or 2 hits on them, and you're still getting the change to inflict damage on them anyway.
Third, having an ability that allows your opponents, to touch your ships, is asking for trouble. I'm a bit paranoid, and have a hard time trusting people who would want to handle my miniatures. I make sure my hands are clean when i use mine, and there is no grantee my opponents will be. Respectful ones will be out there, sure, but you cant guarantee it.
Forth; i dislike this "take things away from your opponent" direction the game is taking. Ion's were at least more balanced in cost and effect. In my experience, Ionizing a ship proved only situationally useful as it was diffacult to setup 'traps' where you could ion them into it (be it rock or mines). Most of the time, it just meant i could more easily block the ship and deny it an action. Tracor beam, gives the attacker far more control to manuver the ship on top of a rock they were next to (and though that had so skillfully avoided) preventing their attack, to right back into that range 1 firing arc or your other ship they thought they dodged. It takes decent skill to fly these ships around, knowing how to maneuver it, and this, Very cheap card, overrides a great deal of that skill.
This feels like its trying to force large ships back into competitiveness (which i didn't think they had an issue with). This card, in my opinion, needs to cost more than it does, or not include the Barrel roll. (which doesnt make sense anyway). The boost i can understand, but not barrel roll.
Well looks like this is the end of the road for me and XWing. A have been pretty adamant about icontrol my maneuvering Ion me Reduce my Agility fine but I draw the line at others now deciding my fate by moving my ship.

If you see Tractor Beams on the other side of the table set up asteroids and fly accordingly. Tractor Beam is a great upgrade because it rewards good players and is also countered by smart play.

Your opponent never touches your ship. The card is very explicit about the attacker telling the defender how to barrel-roll

How about you wait to see how it actually pans out before leaving the game?

Oh look, some no skill Acewing baby that is mad his invincible 40 point ship might actually die on occasion. Good, leave the game. We need a higher proportion of the playerbase using Genericwing lists anyways.

There we go, fixed that for ya. It's always nice to see players encouraging others to quit, is this the league of legends forum?

Well, tractor beams tend to pull the ship towards the acting ship. I suppose it's to represent that.

Ok, more like 95% of the time. There's a few times I agree with the jist of his post, but not the way he presents it. (Same way with the other TIE Advanced pic guys. For some reason they have the same pic. lol )

I am not certain the sky is falling but this does seem terribly under costed, and combining it with ruthlessness and tied title sounds super unfun to be across from
T-beams are not undercosted
they do no damage by themselves
any more expensive and they'd be unusable
+ they still have to fire and hit you; counterplay abounds
a PWT this is not
Edited by ficklegreendiceThis is why FFG held the preview back, to stop the sky falling in.
Edited by Diggs SparklighterA lot of the strength of Tractor Beam is going to be in the subtle things that are harder to describe on the forums than the obvious, "next turn you're off the board lol" scenario.
Sometimes you may be better off shifting a ship in a certain direction with Tractor Beam so that next turn they're pigeon holed into a predictable maneuver or one that can be more easily blocked by moving the ship around with TB first ahead of time.

I'd enjoy it a hell of a lot more than a range 1 Corran FCS double tap or Predator RAC or whatever else broken **** this game is filled with.
