Mist Hunter preview!

By imprezagoatee, in X-Wing

Is it within the rules to attack your own ships? Can I tractor my own vessel out of an enemies arc?

Nope, you can never target your own ships with an attack. Would be nice though. Maybe a future upgrade?

I'm guessing Adaptability is a dual-sided card that can be flipped during the game. Setting it as one or the other at game start doesn't strike me as very adaptable (and like anyone will EVER opt not to take the free +1 PS bump). Who knows; maybe you set a side at the beginning of the game, and every round it flips over. +1 PS this turn? Great, but you're at a disadvantage next turn. It would be a way to balance out the 0 cost.

EDIT: Ooh, wait, you could mix in the +1 and -1 versions and get your entire squad to the same PS. That could be interesting...

Can anyone think of a situation where you'd want to use Adaptability to lower your PS? I'm sure there must be a case where it'd be useful but I sure can't think of what it would be.

Well if you have one generix PS2 Bwing and Ten Numb, you take one PS from the Blue Squadron Pilot and add one to the Ten Nemub, giving him PS9 :)

I want to know the cost of the PS3. Can I run a 4GZ build?!

Maybe!

I have big doubt.

Dial slightly better than B-Wing.

Hull/Shield distribution slightly better than B-Wing.

Evade instead of Barrel Roll, no idea if better, but to tank, it is sure better.

PS3 instead of PS2 is probably better.

So my guess is that it cost 23 points, denying 4GZ build :(

The B-wing definitely has the better end of that deal, outside of things that ignore shields like Proton Bombs and Advanced Homing Missiles. Outside of those corner cases shields are better because they're not prone to critical hit cards.

So now the $64k question. Can you tractor a ship into range one of his allies and then trigger Ruthlessness?

Tractor Beam is a cannon weapon. Adaptability looks like you can raise or lower your PS by 1 for free. Seems pretty straight forward, though I'm not sure why you'd want to lower your PS.

You are now entering the Tractor Beam Meta.

Hold onto your butts...

GET OVER HERE meta.

Compare a Defender with Tie/D and tractor to literally any T-65 pilot with upgrades. Then tell me we're not getting an X-wing in Rebel Veterans.

Make your ps4 a blocker to their ps4 or other similar cases. Usually seems like something to turn someone into a blocker.

for small ship victims only.

I don't believe so. Ruthlessness triggers the moment you hit a ship, we it would occur before the movement happens

So, yeah, still no full explanation of dual upgrades and nothing explaining how you take a tractor beam without the appropriate slot with the title.

MUST

I need three Mist Hunters expansion packs

So now the $64k question. Can you tractor a ship into range one of his allies and then trigger Ruthlessness?

I think so actually. Tractor Beam reads "if this attack hits, the target receives a tractor beam token", while Ruthless reads "after performing an attack that hits." The resolution of Tractor Beam is still during the attack, so all of its text resolves, then Ruthless would kick in...

And to those who pointed out blocking to me as a possible reason for wanting lower PS, yeah, that makes sense, slipped my mind because I'm not used to the idea of blocking with higher PS ships, though in some cases it'd work out.

Tansari point Veteran,

-Heavy Scyk

-Tractor Beam

-Adaptability

20 points to tractor at PS6. 21 points if you replace it with VI for PS7.

Haha....I was just thinking of all those annoying SLAMMING K-wings. What about getting a hit on them and forcing them over an asteroid or debris field?

Or....dragging Soontir back in arc to be hit by the rest of your list.

While you are probably right about the cost, the G1-A has an inferior hull/shield distribution to the B-Wing, which is 3 hull/5 shields.

Oh right, now I feel silly considering I flight 4BZ more often than not...

Hmm, good for generics with EPTs who want to move first, and also great for when you use those generics but don't have the points for a 1 point ept on them. I would use this on Mauler Mithel myself.

I really really like the Tractor Beam though. Like a lot. I'm not sure if I can stress this enough. Lol. Stress the Mist Hunter. Ha. Sure.

I'm sold.

Oooh. Barrel Roll Biggs out of range of the ace he is trying to protect.

Tractor Beam triggers the moment you hit a ship. The defender receives one tractor beam token, which triggers the mandatory movement on the Tractor Beam reference card. Ruthlessness triggers after you perform an attack that hits. The assignment of the tractor beam token and the mandatory movement occur as part of resolving the attack, therefore Ruthlessness would trigger afterward.

I'm stoked.

That was my thought as well, though I didn't have my cards handy to double check Ruthlessness.

Ruthless Vessery with Tractor can put out a lot of hurt in a turn. And Tractor Beam works great against both lower and higher skilled pilots, so the lack of VI will sting a little bit less.

Scum OP AF

Oooh. Barrel Roll Biggs out of range of the ace he is trying to protect.

with Tie/D it doesnt say the second attack has to be against the same target...

Has anyone else figure out the evilness of a tractor beam card in an epic game involving HUGE ships?

(Mentally picturing Mortal Kombat's Scorpion flying by roaring "GET OVER HERE" as he drags you in front of a Gozanti, or just slams a tie back into its mother ship after launching)

I am officially losing my MIND over Tractor Beam.

Every.

Single.

Faction.

Can abuse this. Oh dear God.

I was thinking the same thing. Brutal combo. Supporting ships become a complete liability to low HP aces, because it makes Ruthlessness into an almost 2-range effect. Less hilarious, but also useful would be Vessery moving targets out of ruthlessness range of friendlies.
