Epic Scale?

By Viceroy Bolda, in X-Wing

Yes, I used the search function.

Has anyone done the math to determine the scale of the epic ships?

I'm thinking about scratching / kit bashing a Nebulon-b frigate, after I finish the CR-20 transport. I need a flag ship.

Thanks in advance.

I believe it's something like 1/480 maybe 1/500 The problem is I don't think the GR-75 is quite the same scale as the CR-90 was.

Variable. 1/350 is close for the vette and GR75. 1/270 for the Gozer I think. No comment on the Raider. Assumed to be 1/350~ also.

I don't believe 1/350 is exact.

Depends on the ship.

Gozanti is the same scale as standard format ships - (1:270 )

GR-75 is 1:350 if I recall correctly

CR-90 and Raider are 1:500

For a Neb... Those people who happened to get one from one source or another and like the size could likely give you the dimensions of their ship. If you know it's X inches/mm long the rest shouldn't be too hard to sort out.

The standard play ships are 1/270 (with a couple of odd exceptions, like the YV-666 and maybe the HWK)

The GR-75 Rebel Transport is 1/400

The CR-90 Corvette is 1/460

The Imperial Assault Carrier is 1/270

Mels Miniatures came up with a sliding scale chart for his larger ships:

As far as I know those are all the proper scale per canon. The issue is that not everyone accepts canon size as being accurate.

But the HWK-290 is in fact the correct size and scale based on screenshots from the game, just it was published as being the wrong size early on and a lot of people seemed to accept that as true.

All great posts. Thanks everybody. I'll share pictures as it moves along. With such a large and intricate ship, much time is needed for material collection.

There's a couple of scratch-build Nebulon B posts on the forum which might be useful as a reference Viceroy - I believe bulldoguk did one, not sure who did the other...

So, according to this, the Nebulon would be about 50 cm?

Try thinking about it the other way around. Here's what FFG has to say about the size of the Epic ships from their first announcement of the CR-90 and GR-75:

Instead, this carefully detailed and pre-painted miniature is sculpted at a relative scale that feels good on the tabletop, alongside the game's starfighters and other huge ships.

So! Take your CR-90 and GR-75, put them on a table. Now grab a tube of wrapping paper and put it next to them. Shorten the paper until it "feels" about right. Remember that it has to be able to move on a 3X6 board. And think about it having 3 sections instead of 2. Think about how many inches/cm you want it to be end to end, and then scale it from there.

One of these days, I think I'm going to try and come up with a "standard" suggestion for how a Nebulon B ought to have its various hard points, hit points, etc.

Yeah, I've seen them. Excellent work done by everyone. It is time for me to take the plunge. One day, we will have a custom casual game at FFG in Minnesota.

Yeah, mel eventually did his at 1/608, which was just over 50cm and looked pretty good alongside the rest of the Rebel epic ships. He also did a 1/450 version which comes in at a whopping 66cm (you can see images in my signature, second link.)

Here's links to the scratchbuild threads - might give you some ideas!

I think Mel had some recommendations. What is holding you back? :P

Here's FFG's announcement of Wave 3. Can you _hear_ the defensiveness where they _know_ people won't believe the size of the HWK-290 is correct, but that's what Lucas says, yo!

The HWK-290™ Expansion Pack, Lambda -class Shuttle™ Expansion Pack, B-Wing™ Expansion Pack, and TIE Bomber™ Expansion Pack are scheduled to arrive in the third quarter of 2013. Each of these expansions comes with a detailed miniature starship, accurately rendered at the same 1/270 scale as the game’s other ships (as always, we worked closely with Lucasfilm Ltd. to ensure the correct sizes of each ship), and includes multiple ship cards, upgrades, a maneuver dial, and all necessary tokens.

I have a real sense that the HWK was designed as a Large ship, but then Lucas insisted it wasn't.

Time! :D

(I've got a brand new puppy, among other things. He's awesome and needs all kinds of training. One day I'll be able to say "Luke [his name], we're gonna have company!" and he'll run to his crate and behave.)

If you look at screenshots from the JK series, it clearly was never that big of a ship.

I think the HWK was only large in WEG?

Question on the graph.

Where would the plot turn horizontal considering the Gozanti is nearly 64 meters and at the standard 1/270 scale.
