Phantoms...are they still worth the points??

By shaner, in X-Wing

Phantoms are still great ships. Whisper is still a power pilot that can do it all. The nerf introduced some very nice options and skill into playing phantoms, that's all. Phantoms were the forbidden fruit when I started playing - they were clearly OP and were looked down upon by opponents as something akin to cheating. When the nerf hit I felt relieved, as I wanted to play them so much, and now felt guilt-free in my appreciation of them. They're classy as hell and hit like a bag of ball bearings.

Its like you broke inside my head and stole my thoughts. I wouldn't touch the Phantom pre-nerf because I felt there was a...stigma. It was too easy. Too powerful. Now they are one of my favorite ships.

Don't you mean...sigma?

I really like what they did to it. The Phantom is supposed to be very hard to catch, which it still is. The difference is that now it also has to work to catch other ships, which makes perfect sense fluffwise. The Phantom cloaks itself, it doesn't make other ships bright pink, and pre-nerf it sort of acted as if it did.

The Phantom is absolutely one of the best ships in the game, still, and anyone who thinks otherwise following the nerf have no clue what they were talking about/are upset they can no longer absolutely abuse it.

All the nerf did was bring the Phantom back down to earth with the rest of the "top" level ships. They're harder to fly, but in the right hands they're one of the most terrifying things you'll ever see on a table. I'm always nervous to see that slippery, four dice firing flying death lined up on the other side of me.

This is all good...I am getting a general impression from folks that it is better to keep them as cheap as possible...not to "Fatten" them up too much.

Now a few folks have indicated using the Non-Named pilots. So...here's my thing...at only PS 5, how in the world would you manage to protect them with the ACD? ...or do you even take it and take sensor jammers instead?

I keep wanting to put as much protection on them as possible and they end up being a point sink.

The generics don't get Advanced Cloak. They get Stygium, Sensor Jammers, and often Intel Agents.
