Juke vs C3-PO

By MalanTai, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Something we all missed.

C-3PO: "Once per round, before you roll 1 or more defense dice, you may guess aloud a number of {squigly} results. If you roll that many {squigly} results (before modifying dice), add 1 {squigly} result."

Yeah. I completely missed that too.

Based on the clarification above C-3PO's card really needs to be worded as:

"Once per round, before you roll 1 or more defense dice, you may guess aloud a number of {squigly} results. If you roll that many {squigly} results (before modifying dice), add 1 {squigly} result (before modifying dice)."

That comma makes apparent redundancy necessary.

considering the fairly calm acceptance of the forum members of the HLC Vs Omega Leader ruling I would assume that had C-3PO said to "Immediately add an evade result" this wouldn't be an issue?

I don't mind C-3PO getting knocked down a peg or 2 and it seems fair enough if we all accept that there are dice modification effects that happen outside of the timing windows where players can voluntarily modify dice.

My issue isn't with this being a soft nerf to 3PO... I like the idea that something else is effective against him. My issue is that the whole dice modification rule doesn't actually seem to work like everyone thought it did. It also doesn't seem to work the same way it does in Armada.

But as I said somewhere, Armada was written with a more firm ruling about dice modifications then X-Wing was.

edit: But yeah, as you say, if 3PO said 'immediately' then this wouldn't be nearly so big of an issue. Because then it would be understood it happens right away.

But it didn't so the IMO logical conclusion is that it happens in the dice modification step. But apparently that's not true, which kinda makes for a mushy mess for timing.

When does a modification happen? When it says it happens, even if it doesn't actually say when it happens...

The attacker has to modify defense dice first, then the defender modifies defense dice second...

... except when the defender modifies defense dice first
