Did anyone else notice the "walkers" on star killer base? Did they have 4 or 6 legs? I saw two. ??? I know I know. Not X-Wing related. But maybe in the future they could be. Who knows.
SPOILER ALERT TFA ?

It's in the Incredible Cross-Sections as well, but only in the cross section of the Resurgent-class Star Destroyer. Apparently some similar concept art is in the Art of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. I see Visual Dictionary is also listed there but they don't really say what it covers.
It looks like 4 legs to me.

If you look in the lower right quadrant of the screen when they are on foot on the Starkiller planet after getting out of the falcon, one of the landscape shots has two of them walking along the surface of the snow plains below. At first I thought they were giant ice spiders.

I was going to mention that scene, I loved that shot.
Frankly, is there any reason they can't (heavily) magnetise the walker feet and use them as mobile flak cannons on the outside of Star Destroyers? It would probably cut down on the number of errant ships flying into command bridges.

Yeah, me too, that was what I was expecting this to be about in fact, I didn't notice the AT-AT-ATs (because AT-ATs with extra legs :V) at all.
You cut down on people flying into your bridge by burying the bridge as deep as possible into the ship. There's no reason at all why a ship in a star-wars-tech-level universe needs to have windows other than narrativium...

I think they address that in the design of the Resurgent-class Destroyer (Pablo Hidalgo and everyone who designed that thing need major commendation). I'm also a bit biased because I want to frame that dang foldout in the new Incredible Cross Sections.

The principle is undoubtedly sound. There's a fantastic scene in (I think) the 3rd series of Clone Wars where they essentially do this in reverse; magnetised AT-TEs are dropped from a Republic Star Destroyer onto a CIS ship and blast a way in for a boarding attack. So walkers or just combat generally on the outside of ship hulls is definitely there's something a precedent for. I'd like to see more stuff like this in the upcoming films, doing something different with space battles other than 'Oh look, a trench with a blowy uppy thing at the end of it!'*. More boarding actions, submarine--style 'stealth' combat, there's a lot that could be done.
*I have nothing whatsoever against Trench Runs, but I think 3 is enough!
