My First 100 Imperial

By karmakamikaze, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hey all, bit of a lurker, finally showing my face. A friend and I finally took the plunge and got started with X-Wing this weekend! We picked up one of each core set, and one extra ship each. She got an E-Wing to go with the X-Wings from the cores, and I got an Infiltrator to go with my new ties. We played a few starter games to get a feel for things, but nothing big yet. Rebel scum won 2/3, and only barely lost the last match. It was a dark day for the empire.

Our plan is to roll with 100 points next time we start to play, no proxies, just what we have. I come to you to see if my list makes any sense, but just as importantly, to make sure I'm not breaking any rules. Mind taking a look?

Turr Phennir Interceptor + Wired

Zeta Ace TOE/fo + Weapons Guidance

Omega Ace TIE/fo

Mauler Mithal TIE + Daredevil

Black Squadron TIE

It should come out to an even 100, and uses all of my ships to boot! Thanks for the look, all.

Bonus question: I'm thinking about picking up a Decimator as my next purchase, to get in on the large ship action. I'm guessing a Decimator + some TIEs is a decent combo?

Ah, the post got approved by mods! Mere hours after posting, a fatal flaw in this was pointed out to me. Putting Daredevil on a ship without Boost. I've got an updated list, with some tips from advice people had given me.

Turr Phennir (25) + Daredevil (3)

Zeta Ace (18) + Weapon's Guidance (2)

Epsilon Leader (19)

Mauler Mithal (17) + Determination (1)

Night Beast (15)

I'm going to talk to my friend about introducing proxies to play, but I think I read more about lists and tactics than she does, so I don't want to start working on tournament lists while she's still totally casual. I know Push the Limit would be fun!

First of all, welcome to the game, glad you're enjoying it thus far, feel free to mail FFG your wallet at any time.

In answer to your bonus question, a Decimator with a few TIE's is a great starting point for for new players as it's a nice beefy ship that takes a lot of points so you don't have to field much else.

The build on the other hand isn't terrible given how limited your options are at the moment, things open right up once you start getting more stuff. But something you might want to try as a nasty surprise for your friend is Soontir Fel (Interceptor) with Daredevil and do something sneaky like do a tight one way and Daredevil the other, it'll keep you facing your first direction but further up and across and Soontir will get a free focus from the stress Daredevil just gave him. I remember in one of my early games I surprised someone by getting around an asteroid with a tight 2 or 3 and then Daredevil to continue the circle and ended up behind them with a focus. Turr Phennir on the other hand can't do his free boost/barrel roll if he's stressed from Daredevil.

I recommend using this site to see what's in each pack to help make purchase decisions.

Thank you for the welcome! : D

I think a Decimator and a Tie expansion are in my near future, then. With an Imperial Aces some time behind that. Need to pick up stamps to get my entire wallet in FFG's hands though. I thought their hold on me with the 40K RPGs was rough, yeesh.

Soontir was actually who I used for the one-on-one versus the E-Wing. It was a close battle! I chose Phennir for this list because I had used Soontir already and wanted to branch out, though didn't mention it. Oops. I think this list, and swapping Phennir for Soontir, and I'm thinking Night Beast for Obsidian Squadron, will leave me at 100 points, and give me two similar, but slightly different styled, games.
