Launching with an overlap

By Khyros, in X-Wing Rules Questions

I haven't been paying close attention to all of the new rules recently, but with the Natasha Pup and the Gozanti and Ghost, I figured it was about time I asked the following question.

My understanding of deploying a ship is that you launch it from the host ship, out of either the front or back, and execute a maneuver on the ships dial. What happens though if that maneuver is blocked? Do you just back up along the template like you normally would? If so, what happens if you cannot fit anywhere along that maneuver? Can you choose a different maneuver? If all potential maneuvers are blocked, can you not deploy?

Thanks for the help.

Gozanti Rule Book, Page 5 under Deploying Ships, Item 5:

When deploying:

If this maneuver (the one chosen when deploying) causes the deploying ship to overlap an obstacle or another ship, it follows the normal rules for overlapping. If this causes a situation in which it cannot be placed in the play area, it is destroyed.

Ouch. THAT is harsh.

I almost managed to pull that off 2 weeks ago. Was flying a BBBB Ion cannon swarm. B's all lined up, kept the YV from moving via bumping. Once the first B fly past it, the second bumped and 3 + 4 wiped out the YV. B #1 just about kept it from deploying, but managed to squeeze in by just millimeters

Also found on page 3 of the FAQ. :)

Sweet. I figured this was answered somewhere, but didn't find it in the Hound's Tooth manual, don't have the Gozanti yet, and I must have looked at a dated FAQ.
