We've had an ineffectual war on drugs.
We've had a pointless war on terror.
Can we now have an effective war on cancer?
Who's going to be third of this horrific trifecta?
Nat King Cole's daughter Natalie.

Oh crap, she died too?

sorry, but: the last year ended really sh*tty, the new ones begins sh*tty..
while I'm really no fan of bowie-the-person, I still see what he has done for music. my heart is not broken as the day god and/or satan claimed lemmy (and IMMEDIATELY regretted that, wearing earplugs from that day onward as heaven/hell will never be as "quiet" as before), but it really, really aches. wish he could have shared some more time with the rest of us.
In Belgium we lost Zjef Vanuytsel.
R.I.P. Zjef!
I'm counting the tall man as the third reminder that my younger days are long gone.

I read a quote that said something to the effect of: The US military spends more in 3 days than the entire planet has spent on Cancer Research since 2002.
There's a good chance I'm getting those figures slightly off but it was incredible none-the-less. I believed it too, given the US spent over 700 Billion in 2010.

Currently listening to Bowie's Black star album, and listening to it again, it's almost a magnum oohs goodbye. My wife also mentioned that some of the tracks sound like multiple songs layered on top of each other. Was he trying to get out as much of he could of what he had left to say? Also can't help but wonder if his last album was put together after he got his diagnosis
Edited by Audio WeaselI think in retrospect blackstar is a very obvious swansong.
If you watch the video you can see he looks very ill.
Kathy and I tried to listen to it last night but... yeah it's too soon, y'know?
Its a quite complex album. Lot of layers, very good though.
Let's hope John Williams stays with us a little while longer...!
I heard the song Lazurus from Bowie's new album, and the opening lines were .. prophetic .. reminds me of when Warren Zevon did his last album.
I listen to an independent station (st louis area .. kdhx.org) .. many dj.s payed respects to both.
Last night the dj did his two hour show with nothing but Bowie songs ..
I also managed to hear some Motorhead this week, plus a bunch of songs from Lemmy from bands he was in before MH, including a song called Motorhead, written by him.
Also a couple weeks ago, rip Allen Toussaint...
A Belgian radio station is trying to get a new constellation named for David Bowie!
Ok, this is the only place I feel safe bringing this up (internet comments sections are complete cage fights) but all the different things I've seen people talking about, nobody has brought up Tin Machine. Tin Machine's work (in particular the second album) was Bowie's only major trek (as far as I know) into being part of an ensemble and was AMAZING! Any other Tin Machine fans here?

honestly never heard of it before, but I may search & listen it when time/mood collide.
there's simply SO much good stuff out there, you simply can't know it all. and I'm trying hard for 30+ years now
thanks for the tip mate!
I quite liked Tin Machine
