2016 Store Championship Results

Nice to see wave 8 already getting some use, especially the MistHunter!

I went 2/2 at the Game Matrix in Tacoma Wa.

I may be blind but has anybody else noticed that R5-P8, Punishing One title, and the modification slot for the jumpmaster missing in the list juggler squad builder?

Knoxville Sun Sphere Defense Fleet and Wig Consortium had their third and final Store Championship. 29 players.

Our top 4:

Richard Hsu of Memphis- Airen Cracken, Dutch Vander, Stress Bot Y and Biggs. There was a plasma torpedo and Dutch had an autoblaster. It was a great anti-wave 8.

Justin Battenberg- Miranda TLT, Homing and Guidance Chip; Jan Hawk, and Airen Cracken.

Jonathon Choudion from Chattanooga- Nera Dantel, Airen Cracken, Dutch Vander, and another Z?

Ryan Sliwoski- Hera Syndula Ghost with Kanan and Han Solo crew and FCS Dorsal, Ezra shuttle with Rage and Dorsal, Stress bot.

Honestly, it was a great day. Tons of wave 8 out to fly. 4 Ghosts lists. I think I have more fun watching "Pistol Pete" R5-P8 be magnificent in a Dengar Zuckuss list. We also saw Two Shuttle and Decimator, 3 Khirax and 2 Mangler M3A, Tie Advanced Prototype Swarm, 5 Khiraxes, and other beautifully fun lists. I didn't expect to see two Dutch Vanders and 3 Airen Crackens in the top four today. Rebel Munitions may be finally be here.

Comic Commander store championship in Ridgeland, Ms, was run today with 12 players. You'll have to forgive me as I don't remember all the lists or upgrades; I only know my own list fully (2nd place). Hopefully somebody can help fill in my gaps.

I just won a 23 person store championship in Grayslake, IL using three Scouts. Defeated dual IGs in the finale. I'll post more details tomorrow if anybody is curious.

im curious what upgrades u used on the scouts.

I just won a 23 person store championship in Grayslake, IL using three Scouts. Defeated dual IGs in the finale. I'll post more details tomorrow if anybody is curious.

I'm curious. IGs seem like a hard matchup with that list because of the closing speed and durability vs Scout primaries. Nice win.

My list was 3 Scouts all with Deadeye, Plasma Torps, Extra Munitions, R4 Agromech and Guidance Chips, then one had Intel Agent. The Intel Agent honestly won the game for me. I was able to get rid of one IG pretty quickly, then always seeing the other one's dial meant I was able to block almost every round and deny shots. I didn't lose a ship that game, although 1 was on 1 hull point and another was shieldless. I'll try to post a full report tomorrow. One interesting thing, only 3 players brought Imperial lists today, none made top 4 but I think 1 or 2(?) cracked top 8.

Just got back from a Store Championship at Dark Tower Games in Bellingham, WA. 27 Players total, 5 rounds of swiss cut to top 4.

I only placed 13 out of 54 today but I think I was victim to the first official tournament assassination by boba crew. Happened approx. 1200 CST Saturday the 19th.

He killed Vader crew.

That is all.carry on.

The issue is you letting him do it the first few turns. Giving consent. It was completely within reason for him to expect to do it again.

Exactly, that's why I let him do it the first few times so he'd do it again when it was to my advantage to deny consent.

I am not obligated to consent to missed triggers being performed. I am allowed to allow them one turn and deny them the next.

Related Question: Does anyone play against you twice on purpose?

Yes.

I really like this selection of lists. 4 attack shuttles is hilarious and the gang is all represented. Such a weird list to see in person.

Then we've got 3 X-wings, foregoing droids and IA, for the new hotness--torpedoes!

Above that, a scum debuff shenanigans list. Sprinkle in a couple TLTs and you're golden. I believe Palob and 4-LOM are going to be buddies for a long time to come.

There's a palp aces build just barely missing the cut. And one that made it to the top table.

Blair has a very powerful Biggs/ghost defense build. Unfortunately, the defenses are overmatched against all of Joey's missiles and torpedoes. It was an extremely close game though with both Ndru and Kanan at 1 HP. Ndru received a lucky PS 0 crit at just the right moment so he moved before Kanan instead of after, and thus couldn't be netted to end the game! Instead he was able to K-turn behind the ghost and roll 1 or more hits. It was crazy.

Peter was featuring an interesting spin on Contracted Scout missile boats. Ion torpedoes instead of Protons. Serissu's tractor beam can really set opponents into awful ordnance death zones. But the torpedoes, even with all their modifications, were unable to get through Soontir's defenses, and once they were gone, the scouts and scyk couldn't do damage. Peter was eliminated on time, having lost one scout and killed nothing.

That leads to the final table between Joey's ordnance ZUU. The scouts set to joust on one extreme flank, while Ndru deployed on the opposite. The aces set to joust him, figuring their combined fire would kill Ndru before he fired. However, Glitterstim kept him barely alive and he delivered perfect hits to Vader and knocked him out in one round. The shuttle got double torpedoed and finished off the next turn. The game was essentially over then. Soontir was eventually able to kill Ndru and survive the 2 remaining torpedoes, but not for much longer.

What a day! What a lovely day!

Games and Gizmos in Redmond, WA store Championship was today. I took a Starviper, HWK, and Kihraxz to top table. With mindlink.

Had a fantastic day all around. Several very close games against great opponents. Only two losses were to the overall winner, once in Swiss and again at final table, who was running his Regionals winning list from last year. 28 players showed up.

Faced down a variety of lists: triple Firespray, Dengar and Bossk, Scum Ordinance, Brobots, and then two Decimators. Both times I fought the decimators ended in Palob trying to desperately plink away with his ion cannon against Oicunn.

1st: (1st in Swiss)

Captain Oicunn: Predator, Rebel Captive, Ysanne Isard

Patrol Leader: Gunner, Darth Vader

2nd: (me!) (2nd in Swiss)

Talonbane Cobra: Attani Mindlink, Cloaking Device, Engine Upgrade

Guri: Attani Mindlink, Virago, Fire Control System, Autothrusters

Palob Godalhi: Attani Mindlink, Ion Cannon Turret, "Gonk"

Top 4: (3rd in Swiss)

Latts Razzi: Gunner, Bossk, K4 Security Droid

Zuckuss: Adaptability, 4-Lom, Mist Hunter

N'dru Suhlak: Lone Wolf, Glitterstim, Cluster Missiles, Guidance chips

Top 4: (4th in Swiss)

Darth Vader: Veteran Instincts, Tie/x1, ATC, Hull Upgrade, Proton Rockets

Hate scouts already. Get your pitchforks and torches ready for some Nerfmob justice. (Sarcasm~ish)

Any instance of U-Boats failing, yet?

I'm really interested in these 2 U-boat plus third ship lists...

I took first in Poromagia Store Championships (19.3.2016), Helsinki, Finland. 22 players, 4 Swiss rounds, Top 4 cut, 75min games.

Wave 8 was not legal as it got released like 1-2 days before tournament.

My list was:

Super Dash (PtL, HLC, Kyle, EU, Title) and Miranda (TLT, Recspecc, Ion bomb, seismic charge) 100p

I lost my first round 100-12 to PS10 Jan Ors with TLT, Miranda with Autoblaster turret, Homing missiles, extra munitions and 2 Bandit pilots, which was tough as I expected closer match.

Miranda with Homing Missiles throwing 6 dice (with Jan Ors boosting) at Dash hurts. First round I took 5 damage and next 2 from TLT and 3 from another Homing missile.

Managed to kill one bandit with seismic, that was it..

Next game I went 100-0 against Yorr shuttle with Vader in it and 3 Tie/FO's (Omega Leader with juke, comms and stealth, Omega ace with PTL and Zeta Leader with wired). Opponent had very bad dice rolls that game. First round of shooting I shoot with my Miranda at his Omega Leader with Stealth device through a debris. He rolls like 1 evade and is forced to use his evade token so he wouldn't lose stealth device. Next TLT shot I get 3 hits and he rolls again like all blanks. Then Dash shoots and Zeta and all blanks. It was brutal.

Round 3 I'm against PS10 Boba with Autoblaster cannon, glitter, EU and generic YV666 and PS2 kihraxz. Again opponents green dice fail miserably as Boba took 6 damage from first turn of shooting. Few rounds after my Dash is starting to get every shot through as he fails to evade anything. Down to like 2 hull left in 2 rounds. Also I was unable to shoot Boba (who threw all crits with Autoblaster and thankfully I evaded atleast one of them). As Boba was isolated from rest of his squad I managed to finish off YV666 which I was shooting earlier when I couldnt shoot Boba and few rounds after I shot down Kihraxz. Boba took a hit from a rock and managed to block boba with Miranda to a Seismic charge. Second Bomb kill of the tournament.

100-29 for me.

Round 4 I was against Soontir (TL mod instead Stealth), Wampa, Colzet and Palp shuttle.

First round of shooting was throwing natural 3 hits to natural evades no matter what your evade was. Dash took one damage though. Few rounds later I managed to arc dodge Wampa, Colzet and Palp shuttle all together with Dash and Miranda was doing her thing flying somewhere trying to put bomb in my opponents flying paths, which he avoided (Though it cost him maybe 2 turns of shooting as he needed to take the long route. Good enough I guess). Dash got 4 hits against Wampa who then decided to blank out on greens. Not even Palpatine can save him. As Colzet was pretty much out of game for couple turns I turned towards Palp shuttle while Soontir was tailing Dash pretty hard getting few points of damage through every few rounds. The threat of blocking soontir with Dash and Miranda coming around at him got him a bit scared so he had to turn other way which gave me time to finish off Palpatine without needing to worry too much about return fire. Colzets 2 dice were not enough. Later Soontir was alone with Colzet and was desperate to get damage through as he was losing hard. Nearly tokenless Soontir against TL Focus Dash and double focused Miranda at Range 2 with arc shooting at Soontir. Soontir dropped and Colzet soon after.

100-29 for me.

I wasn't sure if my MoV would be enough. I was second at the time my game ended (5 points behind first) while 3-0 players game was still going on. Then some guy with doomshuttle, defender and Tie/FO got even bigger MoV and got first place. I was pretty nervous as the final swiss game was still going on and it was very close. After that game I had like ~20 better MoV than the losing player of that match so I got to Top 4 as 4. in Swiss. It was good climb from the mud.

Top 4 game was against PS11 Vader with Prockets, Whisper with Kallus and Zeta Leader with Wired. My dash had horrible green dice and dropped very early in the match, managing to shoot 2 shields off from Whisper. After few rounds Zeta Leader was with 1 hull left and I got him in range of seismics from Miranda. Third bomb kill in the tournament for me. So then it was Miranda against Vader and Whisper. Some time later I get to shoot Whisper who had 2 hull left. I managed to drop him making my game much more relaxed as it was very tough. Had to slam 2 rounds straight with 3 banks away from Vader and get him to the obstacle field if he wanted shots. Then we started to shoot again, I started to get some of my shields back and few damage over few rounds. I got to a corner and Vader with his Prockets got in range 1. Thankfully he rolled only 4 possible hits (I was at 4 or 5 hull total) and decided not to use his focus so it was only 3 damage. I shot back and got few damage through and game ended next round me killing Vader.

100-58 for me.

Finals were against RAC with VI, Gunner, Vader and EU and Whisper with FCS, ACD, Kallus and VI.

We started by stalling as much as possible as I didn't want to rush at him so I would be forced out from obstacle field and he didn't want to come at me through the obstacle field. We went for like 4-5 rounds doing circles and few of the spectators (from our playgroup) went to have a beer instead of watching us going circles (Totally understandable :D ) But my Dash was getting closer and Closer every round and his RAC was doing so too so we finally got in action. Miranda shooting at Whisper and did no damage. Next round Whisper got to shoot Dash and RAC was barely out of range. Range 3 shot through a debris, 4 Dice against 4, both with focus (Dash had 2). Whisper gets 4 natural hits. Dash rolls 2 evades and 2 focus. So whisper doesn't get his focus while cloaked. Miranda shoots and gets 1 damage with TLT (Kallus saving one point of damage). Dash shoots only with focus as TL is on RAC. 4 hits with focus used and Whisper rolls like 3 focus and evade and blank or something like that. Had whisper hit Dash Whisper would've lived! At that point the game was already pretty much over. RAC with Vader against HLC and TLT doesn't go well. RAC can't boost into range 1 off Dash as he is in obstacle field shooting 3-4 damage at RAC and Miranda gets every TLT shot through. RAC died in like 2 rounds, but managed to get shields off from Dash.

100-29 win for me.

Tournament was pretty tough as Top6 players were in like a 50 MoV margin of each other. List diversity was good too for our last Non-Wave 8 tournament.

Dash Miranda is very good list if you know how to fly it. Have to test it with Kanan Jarrus instead of Kyle (or even instead of Recon Specialist, but that limits your flying as you need to be in Range 1-2 of Dash with Miranda)

Everyone had fun and had some newer players joining in and doing okay.

Related to mine and Para's experiences with "win at all costs" tactics:

From the tournament rules:

Rules and Interpretations

Tournaments are played using the rules provided in the X-Wing core game rulebook and FAQ , both of which may be downloaded from the X-Wing Support page at any time. If players have a dispute during a competition, they must call a judge to resolve it and provide any rulings on card text or icons. The head judge is the final authority for all card interpretations during a tournament and may overrule the FAQ when a mistake or error is discovered.

Tiers of Tournament

Play Fantasy Flight Games’ Organized Play events are broken into three tiers of play. Each tier communicates what expectations the players, judges, and tournament organizers should have when they are involved with a X-Wing tournament. In addition, the competitive and premier tiers ensure that no matter where a tournament is held, it will be run with the same standards of play and rules enforcement as other tournaments of the same kind in different countries.

Competitive

Competitive events require players to have general knowledge of a game’s rules. While experienced players will come to these events to compete for prizes, players should not be punished for their lack of understanding in the finer points of X-Wing rules . Players can come to these events expecting a consistent experience from store to store. This tier includes Store Championships and one-off FFG-sanctioned events.

The Tournament Rules have (presumably) been superceded by the new Tournament Guidelines, which has some slightly different verbage. However for the Store Championships in question the above Tournament Rules certainly apply. A few points:

  1. The head judge may overrule the FAQ. It does, NOT however, state that the head judge may overrule the Core Rulebook. The TO's ruling that prevented my ships from maneuvering was illegal, and in Frank Brook's words in his email reply to me "outrageous". All ships MUST activate and execute their maneuver during the activation phase.
  2. At competitive events such as any Store Championship, the official guidance to the judge is that " players should not be punished for their lack of understanding in the finer points of X-Wing rules ". Being denied actions due to a simultaneous dial flip, or waiting to put the tokens down after all the ships have executed their maneuver, almost certainly qualifies as a "finer point of X-wing rules". Therefore, a win-at-all-costs player attempting to deny another player actions on this basis, particularly by means of "entrapment", are in direct violation of the tournament rules .

I regularly game with the gentleman that TO'ed the Massachusetts Regionals last year and will be TOing them again this year. There were many examples last year of players that should have called a TO over but did not. Taking 5 and a half minutes to place a single dial, nudging ships to make a ship's maneuver fit, and so on. He is going to be on high alert this time for players that bend or violate the rules. Players that attempt to employ tactics such as my round 1 opponent or ParaGoomba, even if technically legal for a Regionals event, will be watched like a hawk and will not be given any leniency in rulings if a TO is called over for their games.

So you say the TO will be biased?

That whole argument is kinda strange anyway. One player was breaking the rules and the other player enforced them once they were important to the game.

If you are playing in a tournament just follow the rules and don't use any shortcuts unless your opponent gave you a very specific permission to do so.

Ooh I really like Blair's list. I wonder why he used Kanan on the VCX?

To make it super duper annoying to kill Biggs.

Any instance of U-Boats failing, yet?

There was a triple u-boat list at our tournament that did not fair as well (not sure of the final placing). In swiss I was handily defeated by Soontir Fel and his herd of 3 glorious space bulls!

I took first in Poromagia Store Championships (19.3.2016), Helsinki, Finland. 22 players, 4 Swiss rounds, Top 4 cut, 75min games.

Wave 8 was not legal as it got released like 1-2 days before tournament.

That's a bit disappointing (the ruling about no wave 8). I find the store championships IMMEDIATELY after release are always the most entertaining.

To make it super duper annoying to kill Biggs.

Quite so. You can actually make it worse by shuffling points around. Find points for either R2-F2 or R7 astromech. If you go R2-F2 and use Cracken's extra action on Biggs he goes up to 4 agility with focus behind the Ghost. 5 agi if at range 3. Or R7 gives you 3/4 agi but the ability to force one ship to re-rolls their good dice.

R4-D6 doesn't actually trigger much since Kanan is often subtracting dice before the shot, 3 or more uncancelled hits are unlikely.
