2016 Store Championship Results

By MajorJuggler, in X-Wing

Pair-A-Dice in San Diego had their Store Championship on 1/9. 35 ppl in attendance, 5 rounds (75 mins), Top 4 cut. I'm hoping the lists will be uploaded to juggler soon, but 3 of the 4 Top 4 builds had Whisper and the other was a Tie Swarm.

2 Whisper + Palpmobile

Whisper + Chiraneau

6 ship Tie Swarm

The Whisper/Chiraneau defeated the Tie Swarm in the finals.

Man. San Diego likes them some Imperials.

I'm curious, where these Whispers running Agent Kalus? He seems like a good fit on a phantom.

Yeah, I was one of those top 4. Kallus is indispensable.

A Kallus Phantom list stomped me in the Semi Final in Atlanta.

A Kallus Phant ø m once bit my sister.

Any results to report from this weekend?

There wasn't much representation from San Diego in the top 4 cut. It was mostly guys from further up North that made their way down South for the tournament.

Ahhhh. That's Mynock Squadron territory, yes?

We always say "someone forgot to tell SoCal that the Phantom was nerfed".

Hey, as long as no one takes a 1-3pt hard-counter upgrade... :P

Did Kallus really make that big of a difference?

The Phantom is indeed fine. I actually prefer it now because it does really reward good planning and piloting. As opposed to the pure reactive plays you made back then that allowed for no counter or got hard countered.

As i said in another post. People tend to throw stuff overboard at the slightest sign that it could not be the most OP cookie cutter list anymore. It's a psychological effect i guess.

But the few Phantom players kept making pretty good showings during all this time.

Now Kallus is really good in a 2-3 ship meta. One question of faith remains for me.

Did they run FCS or Semsor jammer on them? Jammers are ideal against TLTs, but FCS is the staple and cheaper...

Allowed an unfocused Phantom to roll 5 hits, but it admittedly only matteted on the one attack, because his Decimator finished it off.

I'm pretty certain about the #3 and #4 lists... I didn't play Ian, but I did play someone that apparently played the exact same list. And then Aaron's list was the same except the Y-Wing didn't have a title.

Brad and I both won our Top 4 matches. Brad, having fallen to me in round 4 (of 5) during swiss, pulled out a crushing defeat in the final match.

So, Brad won it all? I had actually assumed based on the order that you had until I read the last couple of sentences! ;)

Stealth Device on Omega Leader. That is an option I didn't really think about. I like it.

Yeah, sorry, slightly misleading. That was the order going into top 4.

Does anyone know if a tournament uses FFG tournament software, what is the easiest way to export the file to upload to List Juggler?

Oh, he wouldn't have shed any. Don't you know that flying turrets is fine so long as you use generics and only one other upgrade?

I mean, really , Obi, get with the program! :P

How many tears did you shed?

Many tears of joy. I was a big proponent of flying quad TLT when it came out to shove fat turrets from the meta, seeing it as a taste of turretwing player's own medicine, showing them how it feels to drown in turrets.

The quad TLT player didn't even know that Interceptors had 2 hard greens. His opponent assumed he would account for a 2 green and did a 1 hard with Soontir, which the TLT player correctly guessed because he didn't think Interceptors had 2 greens and it won him a game.

Wait.... You hate fat turrets because they take no skill to fly, right?

And you're ecstatic that a quad TLT player won who didn't even know that a Tie Interceptor had a green hard 2..?

Nothing against the player. That's fantastic for him, and I am happy to hear when a new player finds success. But, considering this example seems to show that quad TLT suffers from the exact same "easy mode" flying that fat turrets do, I'm just a bit baffled I guess.

It's vengeance for the previous year of facing nothing but fat turretwing squads. It proves my point that any child smearing ice cream on his face can do well with turrets because the game at that point might as well be Candyland.

So you're happy the guy won but you're calling him a messy child. Ok, fine, I'll say it.

You're a jerk.

For heaven's sake, Goomba, why are you wasting your time on a game you clearly no longer enjoy?

I hate Candy Land but I will buy a copy and trade it to you for all your X-Wing stuff. I'll even cover all the shipping both ways.

I generally enjoy it. Despite how much I complain the current Acewing meta is much better than fat turretwing.
