Defender, Bomber, Tie list

(warning: french pilot writing, I apologise for spelling mistakes)

Hi everyone,

I'm preparing for my first local tournament and would like to bring some original non-meta list. I'm looking for some advices for the lists I'm setting up. So folks what do you think about this:

N°1:

Rexler Brath (37) Lone wolf (2) HLC (7)

Scimitar squadron pilot (16) Plasma torpedoes (3) EM (2)

Mauler Mithel (17)

Backstabber (16)

100pts

(In my first list I set Vessery instead of Rex and put seismic charge on the scimitar. But with only the bomber able to give TL to Vessery I've changed my mind for Rex)

N°2

Vessery (35) Lone wolf (2) HLC (7) MK II (1)

Scimitar squadron pilot (16) Homing missile (5) Seismic charge (2) EM (2)

Epsilon squadron pilot x2 (30)

100pts

Thanks!

I'd lose lonewolf from both lists. Its a great card but it telegraphs your plays at times and can be hard to keep active in even 3 ship lists. Your opponents will exploit this whenever possible. Other than that looks ok try it out.

Not necessarily. You take lone wolf on a defender primarily for endgame when your other ships are dead. Although it depends. It gives you the option to flank with the defender if your opponent sets up in a way to make it worthwhile.

To the OP, I would go with your 2nd list. The 2 epsilons will be excellent blockers capable of picking up target locks for Vessery because they will get ignored over the Scimitar. Their blocking will help allow the Scimitar to get enemies in arc to fire a missile, and Vessery should have plenty of opportunities to use his ability until they are all dead (then Lone wolf kicks in).

Mauler Mithel and Backstabber are a bit more fragile than the epsilons, and your bomber in the first list is much less effective compared to the 2nd. So for those reasons, I don't think it will do as well...

I use this one with good results (of course that depends on your local meta), i know it's not the common Brath build, but it works since he can do a lot of things with Twin Ion Engine Mk.II equipped. I thought it to execute focus+BR each turn, or focus and TL (if you spent it, you have 11 greens, plus a white 4K turn, when the new titles are released, this guy would be a nasty beast, mostly with TIE/D one and Flechette or Ion Cannon.

I also have a variation with Vessery, that changes the crewman in Phantom for a Weapons Engineer, meaning that the Defender can choose the who to TL, since you get 2 free TLs when you use your FCS with the Phantom.

"Whisper” TIE Phantom (42 Points)

- Mara Jade

- Fire Control System
- Veteran Instinct
- Advanced Cloaking Device
Rexler Brath TIE Defender (41 Points)

- Push The Limit

- Twin Ion Engine Mk. II

"Dark Curse" (16 Points)
PS: I don't intend to change you the whole list, it's only a example of an "uncommon Defender build", but that one works, try it if you have access to the Modification upgrade, if not...i totally agree with Blade Mercurial's post :)

I like #2 for the simple fact that Plasma Torps on a Scimitar will be hard to get good damage from. You have to take a Target Lock and then spend it to fire the Torps. That means that you will have no dice modifiers for the shot. For this reason, I think Bombers function best when they are in numbers and with Jonus. Go all-in or go home unless you want to use it as a "Heavy TIE". The Homing Missiles do not have that issue.

That's right lone wolf isn't easy to use on the first part of the encounter, especialy with three other ships. But I like the possibility to re-roll a blank on defense in the opening game while I'm trying to keep my defender at range 3 or at the end of the game when my shields are down with one or two hull remaining.

My first idea was to use my defender as a lure and flank with Mauler et Backstabber trying to get at range 1 out of my enemy's arc. In this position each of these pilot hit realy hard. But I agree they are fragile and my bomber is less effective, I'm thinking to replace plasma torps by advanced homing missile.
