Noob question on order of play

By Lord Sloth, in X-Wing Rules Questions

If you have an xwing with PTL and BB-8 and you do a green move:

1. When do you do the BR, before or after you do the green move?

2. If I decide to PTL, do I do it after the BR or can I keep it for after I do my normal action?

2.1. If PTL is done when I perform the BR does this happen before or after I check for stress(remove stress due to green move)?

1: You perform the barrel roll before you execute the move.

2: Either. You can activate Push the Limit any time you take an action, as long as you've not previously activated it that round - usually this is during your action phase, but there are a wide range of ways to activate it outside that, BB8 included.

3: Both the BR and PTL would happen before the green move, so the green move would clear the stress from PTL, allowing you to take a third action during your action phase.

The combo works the way you hope it does and is a very good combo.

Thanks, good to know.

Looking at the order of the Activation Phase, and this will demonstrate the "why" and "how" of why this combo works so well:

1. Reveal Dial
BB-8's text of "When you reveal a green maneuver, you may perform a free barrel roll action." triggers here, as you have just revealed the ship's dial so the Barrel Roll is taken here if desired. PtL can trigger here as well, as you are instructed to perform an action. The stress acquired from using PtL is also given here.

2. Execute Maneuver

2a. Move Ship

2b. Check Pilot Stress
If a green maneuver was used, one stress token can be removed here. So if PtL was used off the BR, then the resulting stress token can be removed at this step.

2c. Clean up

3. Perform Action

If you did not use PtL earlier, you can trigger it here from your action. This will generate a stress token like normal.

If PtL was used earlier, and you revealed a green maneuver then you can take another action here.

Also keep in mind that PtL is a once per round upgrade, so if you used it after BB-8's free barrel roll action, you can't use it again during your Perform Action step in that round.
