Push the Limits

By Croste, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Am I reading into this?

Coran Horn cant Barrel Roll then Boost because Boost isnt in the action bar.

Or is taking the upgrade means it is now part of the action bar?

Nevermind. I see it.

Your action bar gains.

Good, Im playing it correctly.

Push the Limit only allows actions from your action bar. If you equipped an Engine Upgrade, then that adds the boost icon to the action bar making it another viable choice for Push the Limit.

That would be the only way for Corran to be able to Barrel Roll => Push the Limit => Boost.

Experimental Interface and R7-T1!

Barrel Roll => Experimental Interface => R7-T1 (choose a ship, if you are within range 1-2 and in that ship's firing arc, you may acquire a target lock on that ship. Then you may perform a free boost action)

With Push the limit you could:

Barrel Roll => Push the Limit => Focus => Experimental Interface => Target Lock + Boost - Receive 2 Stress tokens.

Remember, R7-T1 is in the FAQ, when you use his ability, you may choose not to acquire a target lock, but as long as you are in range 1-2 and firing arc of the ship you chose, you may boost. This is in case you already have a different ship target locked and don't want to give it up.

Some upgrade cards add things to the ship's upgrade bar while others are actions all by themselves.

Generally if an upgrade will give the ship a common action, and only gives it the ability to use that action, it will put it on the upgrade bar. If an upgrade does something unique or in combination with a common upgrade (expert handling for example) then it is usually its own action.

With PTL, you get a stress after the second action, which would normally prevent additional actions, unless you had Tycho.

Is EI nested or something?

Yes, EI and PTL can next, because of the phrasing of them - take an action, then gain a stress.

So, you can do, e.g.:

Boost

>PTL

>Barrel Roll

>>EI

>>Daredevil

>>>Gain stress from Daredevil

>>Gain stress from EI

>Gain stress from PTL

Yeah, that's also another way you could do it, albeit an expensive option at 44 points before you add any torps or system upgrade. My point was purely concerning Push the Limit to Boost, and it seemed that the OP was using Engine Upgrade as part of the equation. Plus R7-T1's window of opportunity is a little more restrictive, than PtL/EU.

It sure is, but it does allow you to get an extra target lock if you satisfy those conditions.

And it is a little more interesting than throwing PTL and Engine Upgrade on every ship!

PTL+EU is 7 points but you have a free Droid slot

R7-T1+EI is 6 points but you have a free Elite slot

Wired? Crack Shot? Lightning Reflexes? Veteran Instincts? Outmaneuver would let Corran Horn gain the benefit on both shots. Expert Handling for even more EI shenanigans?

If it sounds like it could work, why not give it a try? I would if I owned the YT-2400 that comes with Experimental Interface, but I don't own many of those insurgent ships.

There are other Droids that have unique actions, perhaps you want R2-F2 for 4 defense dice every turn.

Another EI action is solid with R7-T1 I think, or indeed PTL to get a focus as well - you might even be able to justify a torpedo at that point(!)

Ah but then we don't have room for Guidance Chips!

I'm just thinking an E-wing owner might appreciate the chance to use R7-T1 since most of what you see in that slot is R2-D2 or the other shield regen droid.
