flying the ghost: is the attack shuttle >Y-Wings, A-Wings?

By TheOz, in X-Wing

Hello fellow x-wingers, with the ghost coming to us soon, I was practicing squad building and it brought up an interesting question to me. Is the attack shuttle worth it in competitive 100pt x wing? I am starting to wonder if it's better to fill that space with two tlt y wings, or maybe an a wings, or k wings, I mean a fully loaded miranda and a fully loaded ghost seems much better then ghost ,shuttle, and z95/a wing.

Is the attack shuttle the best competitive option to run with the ghost in a 100pt build?

What do yall think?

I'm pretty sure the attack shuttles can be taken on their own, without the VCX-100.

However, since there's no generics - you have to pick from the aces as to which suits one's squadron (to a maximum of 4, even in epic games).

Attack shuttle is great. I'd even say underpriced.

But bluntly taking one without some idea in mind is a bad idea.

The Attack Shuttle is the cheapest 3 attack ship you can put on the table. That alone should be enough for it to show up in squads that don't have a VCX-100. Sabine's abiltiy (coupled with PTL and Kanaan crew) makes her amazingly unpredictable, Ezra will be annoying to kill (with Wired and Hera crew he cares about stress about as much as Tycho does), Hera with VI (and maybe Nien Nunb) is an almost unshakable budget ace coming in at only 24 points.

I'm sorry let me make my question more clear, if your running the ghost, is it woth it to take the shuttle with it. Because after the ghost you only have so much space to use

If you don't take it you don't get the rear arc, no rear arc means ties will eat you alive.

True but you can equip a turret, plus that rear arc costs you a minimum of 18 pts and it is not hard to kill once it's off of the ghost. It might be worth it but I think it's debatable and that's why I started this thread ;) lol

No its not, naked Squints are.

Yes but that turrets not going to hit as hard as the four firepower from your primary, it also can't separate and make a nuisance of itself when the big ships about to die.

Nothing is better than A-Wings, sorry, dude.

Zeb is 18 points for PS3, which would cost 20 points for a comparable Interceptor (Avenger Squad). The PS1 Alpha Squad is the same cost as Zeb. Taking PS into account it's the cheapest. Ignoring PS it is tied for the cheapest.

There are 3 benefits to the title-

1- you get an extra ship to poop out when you feel the need (but eliminating the following 2 benefits)

2- you get a rear firing arc for a 4 attack ship

3- you get to make an extra attack at the end of every round with an equipped turret

There is one negative to having the title, although a very big one-

1- It costs at least 18 points

I personally think it is better with the title. I mean, you can guarantee a ship at 4 hull or lower is dead in a single round if it is in range 1 of a Ghost w/ Acc corrector, autoblaster turret, and the title, and that may not even be the most insane build. But it is also viable without the title I'd say. Just not as terrifying.

Not trying to be too pedantic, but you literally said 'The Attack Shuttle is the cheapest 3 attack ship you can put on the table'. Nowhere does it say 'adjusting for PS'.

So, in fact, the cheapest 3 attack ship you can (physically) put on the table is the Tie Interceptor. Sorry m8 but its true :)

Oi! You can't be pedantic and then sloppy in the same post! "the cheapest 3 attack ship you can (physically) put on the table is the Tie Interceptor" is true if and only if the alpha isn't the same price as the shuttle. It is. Your statement cannot therefore be true.

You're out of the pedants club! begone, sir!

Unless he was talking about monetary price.

...

But given lots of small base ships have 3 attack dice, I don't know why you'd say that, but that's my best guess as to what me meant.

From my limited experience, I would say yes. The Attack Shuttle gives the Ghost a second attack with an equipped turret at the end of the Combat phase, in addition to opening up its rear arc for attacks. There are indications that you may be able to use that rear arc to fire Torpedoes, but it remains to be seen whether you can do so without a shuttle equipped.

That you can deploy it in case of emergency and have it be a solid secondary attacker is more of a bonus.

I'm still trying to decide between the best system/turret combination, though. Right now it's down to Dorsal, TLT or Autoblaster. TLT is most expensive, but gives you the most coverage out of your side arcs. Autoblaster gives you a range 1 bubble of doom, but you can't use it outside of that range. Dorsal is fairly cheap, but it's really just a 2-dice primary turret that can't shoot at range 3.

It is *absolutely* worth the points to dock a shuttle on the ghost. I've only played 2 games so far with my ghost list (ghost + docked phantom + undocked phantom) but it's absolutely wrecked both of my opponents. Clearly needs a lot more practice games since 2 isn't much, but it's been a blast to play and worked quite well. I don't know yet whether a second shuttle will be the best bet as opposed to some other ship, but sabine with ptl, kanan, targeting computer and autblaster turret has been a blast to play so far.

I've been running autoblaster so far on both the ghost and the phantom. The inability to cancel hits works wondres against high agility targets like brobots (my ghost killed IG-B in 2 turns playing against brobots when he got too close) and interceptors/a-wings.

Just checking, but you are aware you only get one attack out of TLT during the end phase, right?

LOL well played sir. To be honest i always thought Zeb was 19 points when theyre, in fact, of equal cost. That doesnt mean i'm truly wrong though, technically speaking the Interceptor is the cheapest 3attack ship you can put on the table. The reason being that it is impossible for you to name a cheaper ship with 3 attack dice, you can only name one that is equal in cost (Zeb).

Can i rejoin the pedants club, please?

Yes you get a second attack, but you lose an attack that the shuttle would have given you undocked so you really don't gain an extra attack, you just don't have to lose an attack for docking. And it's like when we do two ship builds, it's usually two sick independent ships, with the ghost you have room for your rear arc and another basic cheap ship, and that ship gets more basic the more you load up on the ghost and the shuttle. Like I said I'm just not convinced yet that it's the best option. I mean a 50pt ghost and two tlt y , ngs with one rocking the stress bot sounds sweet too, or an a wing+ tlt stressbot. Or two ghosts. I may be wrong or not, just enjoying the discussion

Zeb with Chewbacca crew is 22 points, with a higher PS and better survivability than a Blue Squadron Pilot.

Coupled with the Ghost, he's guaranteed to survive until the end-game, when deployment is advantageous.

On his own, he's still pretty darned good.

personally... i just cant wait for these ships to come, both the ghost and the attack shuttle. I love the heroes and the ships, even if they have crap stats in the game
