The biggest problem with netlisting is that no one seems to be jumping on my Mon Motha 3 Neb 2 MC30 list with H-6s and X-wings. My praises MUST be sung!!! I am the Armada God!!!!!

It's really fun though! It has projection experts and redemption. Spams engineering making for some annoyingly hard to kill ships. Please try it out. Pretty please.

I would totally run this list....after I took it apart and made a few *cough* adjustments.
Netlisting can be good for a player trying to pick up on a different tactic or game play synergy involving ships or with upgrades. There have been plenty of times I have overlooked a ship/upgrade and then had someone explain the usefulness of it in a list. I try the list and bam it makes sense and why wasn't I running "this" before.
But for some other players they my take them b/c they have been proven to win (GenCon Special, Worlds) The one thing that stands out to me is that just because you have a winning list never means you'll be able to win "with" it.
I am not against someone wanting to run a Netlist against me or at a tournament. If I faced that person over and over though I would hope they would tweek or think outside of the Netlist box and of course I would offer suggestions on builds too.
The best players are fully aware of what other players are playing. I think the greater point of the OP: noone makes their list in a vacuum.
IMO in a game like Armada (and X-wing) there are some natural tendencies. Some people just are quicker to evolve than others, so while the field may become homogenized it's not explicitly from people copying one another. Besides the point: if someone just picks up a winning list and doesn't understand it, then they're probably not going to do well with it (if they understood it, it's likely they would have come to it on their own).

I don't know what people are going to play. . . How can I get this ability?

You obviously need to get more in touch with the Dark Side.
Was what "Netlist" or "Netlisting" ever actually defined here, because I've heard so many different connotations of it, I don't know what I should be agreeing with or not.

Here's the base list:
1 • Nebulon-B Escort Frigate - Yavaris (62)

There's 8 left over points which can go which way, from Salvation to Luke, Leia, Nym, or whatever else floats your boat. You can also change one MC30 to a CR90 to free up some points for other things like another fighter or other upgrades. Its a safer ship to have Mon Motha on but it means one flank is "open". I'd run Bwings but the prevalence of Akbar and the desire to drive fast make them a no go. Even as is, the fighters can occasionally have difficulty keeping up.
The general idea is to have a Neb line with MC30s on the flanks which crash in to the center to protect the Nebs if they're not busy on the flank. Run everything at speed 3 or 4 vs an Akbar list and use the MC30s to box the AFM2s. The MC30s should ideally engage the same turn as the Nebs.
I think the CR90 variant is probably better, but can be screwed over hard if they get to the non-MC30 flank with something dangerous. Higher risk/reward.
And thanks all for letting me joke about my ego.
I can't promise to test it this week due to tournaments but I can try it out after that. If I have a second game Thursday I will test it thoughAnd thanks all for letting me joke about my ego.
And now we know what you'll be playing in the future. See it can be done. ![]()

I have a feeling I will be putting pressure on myself though trying to do these lists justice

Perhaps I should have been less glib, to avoid the troll comment: the best players understand what most other players will likely be playing. Predicting the metagame is as much of a skill as anything else in this game, and it's often the difference between someone just playing their list the best and playing the "right" list at a given event.
Well I was a bit less troll than you think.
Currently with just 9 ships and 16 different squadrons (split of 4 Imps and 5 Rebs with 8 squadrons each) there are a plethora of really good lists out there. There are meta's bit in my area things change up often.
Who cares about netlisting even if you get a powerful list you as the player still need to utilize the ships, squads, upgrade cards and commands effectively. It doesn't matter how good of a list you have if you maneuver all your ships off the table, into every obstacle, or into the main fire arc of the enemy ships.

Correct. The variables change each game and thus lead to a new experience every time.
Net listing is silly and I don't know why anyone would do it. I can barely write on the thread, nevermind trying to reread it afterwards. Plain paper for me I'm afraid. Lines preffered. Although, in hindsight, you can use the net to pack your models and cards...just not the dice, cuz they slip through the netting.

I've been away from both the forum and the game somewhat for a month+. What are the top-performing lists these days? Where would we netlist these from?
To the degree that I'm paying attention, it seems like Wave 2 hasn't settled yet into a recognizable meta.

Well if the guys you play tourneys with are the same guys you play casually with you should have a reasonable idea of several things.
1) What those guys own and can field for a list. If none of the guys you expect at the event have three or four glads then you don't necessarily need to prep for that.
2) What those guys like playing and play best with. Now they might cross you up but for the most part they're going to play things close to what they practice with.
3) What you're playing. Those guys know things one and two about you. So some expectation that they'll field counters to your list is reasonable.
4) What those guys do do. If a guy shows up with a different list every casual night expect to see something different at the tourney.
5) Did the guy post pics of his newly painted ships in your Facebook group? Seems pretty reasonable he'll field them for the weekend tourney.
At least this is what I assume Mege means by "no one makes their list in a vacuum."

It hasn't. I doubt it will for a long moment yet.
Mostly because we're all involved in our own individual Metas...
Those meta's won't really cross until at least, Regionals, GenCon, and then Worlds...

I WISH! Everyone I play are always changing their lists up (So am I, I guess. . . ) so are meta is chaotic but it has recognizable elements. For instance you have a high chance to face squadrons.
Granted my list doesn't apply everywhere and is mostly for smaller groups but even chaotic is a meta. But for the most part reading minds is just a matter of having enough data points to make really good guesses.

Indeed, it's really been all over the place - people (incl. yourself) are being very experimental.
