We havea 5'x9' gaming table and have been using as much as 3'x8' of it for XWing Epic play. During our last game, my son commented the play area is too narrow!!!

So I would like a black cover for the entire table to expand our play area! Currently, we use green felt to cover the entire table, then either 3' wide black felt or vinyl mat material. Id like something big enough to cover the entire table in black, but not use felt!

Any ideas on a single piece at least 5'x9' in black?

You can try contacting a sign shop or commercial printer. They may be able to print up a black or space background sheet that large. NASA has several very high resolution pictures you could use for the image.

There are a variety of photo backdrop materials you can look at in sizes accommodating very epic Epic games. That stuff is pretty slippery, so be aware of that.

If I can make a suggestion though.

Reaching across a 6' x 9' span is awkward and makes it easy to knock stuff around leaning out to reach things. I've magnetized a bunch of bases and hung a painted sheet of metal on a wall. I also used sheet magnets (like refrigerator magnets) to make magnetic maneuver templates and such. It has that cool "War Room" look while also making it easy to reach anywhere on your map.

It's a bit more of a project than a simple vinyl sheet. But when you start having really big engagements, table tops start being less and less practical.
