Phantom menace squad list.

By captkahos13, in X-Wing Squad Lists

So new to the game and have a tournement coming up in a couple weeks but figure would get some input from the community on what ya thought of this list. I am not one to follow the meta when it comes to building a squad I play what I enjoy really but let me know what changes you might make to upgrades and such.

Echo with lone wolf, fire control system, and advanced cloaking device.

Whisper with elusiveness, fire control system, and advanced cloaking device.

Epsilon Ace with stealth device, and weapons guidance

Point total=100

Again playing for fun mostly I know list might not be top tier or very competitive but let me know of anything you would change upgrade wise. The Epsilon Ace is mostly for blocking and some extra damage here and there while the phantoms cloak in and out for heavy shots.

First of all, I think you have the right idea for your first tournament: go to have fun. So that's a good place to start!

I think you have made some choices that will only hurt you, however. And I don't think its your fault really-----just that some things aren't 'obvious' until you have tried them to see exactly how they work.

For example, Elusiveness on Whisper. This card is generally not a very good way to boost defense, because it only has about a 50/50 chance of stopping 1 hit/crit (even worse odds if your opponent has a focus token). The absolute worst part of this card is the stress you take to use it. Whisper HATES stress. If the opponent has a higher pilot skill than whisper, using this ability will actually kill her rather than save her (because once stressed, she won't be able to take the free cloak action from her advanced cloaking device, making her more predictable and vulnerable to subsequent shooting).

So Elusiveness absolutely has to go if you want to keep Whisper alive ;)

In its place, I would suggest veteran instincts if you have it. The reason is simple: the higher your pilot skill is, the earlier you get to shoot. Because advanced cloaking device does not kick in until after you shoot, you want to be shooting as early as possible with your phantoms that have it.

Next up we have Epsilon Ace as a blocker. The problem is that Epsilon Ace has a cool ability that makes him Pilot Skill 12 so long as he doesn't have any damage cards. This is not optional. Pilot Skill 12 is THE HIGHEST IN THE GAME! No one even comes close. The best any other ship can possibly get is Pilot Skill 11 (for example, Wedge Antilles or Darth Vader taking veteran instincts). So Epsilon Ace is the pinnacle of pilot skill. This means that he ALWAYS MOVES LAST! It also means he always gets to shoot first. So what I am trying to tell you is that he is a TERRIBLE blocker! He will never get to block. He can only get blocked in fact, because he moves last. I'm not saying he's a bad choice, just that you can't use him as a blocker (unless he gets damaged of course!).

Anyway, just a few things to keep in mind! I wish you good luck at your tournament, and I don't think you should make too many changes because it is better to play the things you are interested in and try to learn as much as you can!

But seriously, do not put Elusiveness on Whisper! Anything else will be better, but veteran instincts is the ideal choice ;)

Thanks for the tip was going with what I have for the most part will have to see what else I got to use. Going to make a few changes will take Elusiveness off and go from there. I know he has a high pilot skill with his ability figure could use him for some early shots until he gets damaged at least then try to block. Trying it out this weekend and see what happens.
