Would I get snowballed?

By Yakito, in Imperial Assault Campaign

Hello guys. Just started my first campaign.

My Rebels picked up Temptation as their next mission and I have to admit, I do want to see them get that lightsaber. I am an Imperial, and yet I do hope they win this one...

My question is - is there a snowball effect in this game? If they win 2nd,3rd 4th game in a row will I just be stuck watching them win every single mission? I'd like to show them Imperial might, but I wonder if I'll be stuck losing if I don't ruin they day every mission.

The rewards for any individual mission makes a rather small impact on the campaign, but the snowball effect is a real thing -- it is a common complaint from individuals on these forums that they "just can't seem to win" because they are so far behind.

As the Imperial Player you have two real options -- you can either try to crush the Rebellion at all costs, or you can try to be a little nice here and there, playing more of the role of a GM.

Personally, I like the former option. This is Imperial Assault! Give the Rebels nothing!

If I wanted to GM, I would play a classic RPG like D&D or one of the Star Wars RPGs made by FFG.

The question is... how good are you?

Diala's lightsaber is going to be awesomely good if this is their 1st side mission. It's a little odd since that means she won't have reach, but it is good and she will mow down regular troopers like nothing.

However, that is because your Class Deck does not have the capability to protect them. Almost every class deck gives some measure of bulking up those Imperial figures so that, by the time she gets Way of the Sarlaac (or God help you, Dancing Weapon), you'll be able to defend a bit better against it.

Are you good enough to overcome that? Because I won't lie, when and if Diala gets Dancing Weapon that thing starts to sing.

Is dancing weapon really that much better that Sarlacc? I now Sarlacc is pretty hard to execute properly, when with the +2cleave on the saber, it can quickly deal loads of dmg even with just two targets.

Probably not good enough, I just started the game :)

It's just a shame. Out of the entire game the lightsaber is the only thing I'd want my group to get, as it's iconic... And if they fail to get it once they can't get it ever, right?

Anyway, I may fail that mission even if I actually try my best, who knows? :D

Lightsabers are *bad*

Not to hijack the thread, but Dancing Weapon with the Lightsaber is amazing. With Way of the Sarlaac, you are pretty much waiting for the Imperial player to set his forces up in a way that allows you to make use of it, it costs 2 strain, and forces you to run up into what may be a trap. Yes, you can kill a bunch of guys, but the lightsaber with only Blue/Red can be tricky to get those surges on if you're not focused, and it's frustratingly easy to roll 2 points of damage on the thing. Dancing Weapon, by comparison, costs only 1 strain to use for a 3 die attack every single time, a 4 die attack when focused, and it's easy to use that Cleave since your cleave target can be in a completely different spot as your original target, all you need is LOS and enough accuracy to put +2 damage on someone.

Correct. It's gone for good.

Just remember its iconic for shaving stormtroopers into veal cutlets.

Indeed. :) You're not doing yourself any favors by allowing them to have it unless you want to see Diala's player be really happy.
