Cybernetic Eyes

By Squirrelsan, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

So, my Wookie companion recently had an "accident" when trying to throw a thermal detonator at a pirate king (Adversary 2, bad idea). The condensed version of the story is that he's getting a new arm and I need new eyes. Two other party members were also taken out but didn't actually lose any major body parts.

I had a look around online for some imagery of cybernetic eyes to get an idea of what they could look like, but everything I find online seems to be just fancy irises or maybe the whole eyeball:

I also tried specifically searching for Star Wars cybernetic eyes and I found examples like Commander Wolfee, but I'm still not loving it:

Having gone for the Cybernetic Eyes, rather than a prosthetic replacement, they explicitly do not look like real eyes and are clearly mechanical, so I was looking for somehting a bit more bulky, maybe somehting along the lines of Batou:

Has anyone come across some suitable artwork they can point me towards?

Also I'll be in the bacta tank for a while longer but if you want to leave flowers or chocolates just drop them off with the 2-1B medical droid...

May I introduce Terrinald Screed. Actual canon member of the imperial navy and his cybernetic eye. Looks quite menacing doen't it?

I'm of the opinion that the more expensive the cybernetic, the more 'natural' looking it is, basic cost will have a very cyborg looking replacement taking over a majority of the damaged area.

Thaaaat makes a lot of sense, actually.

Especially with the perceived stigma the Star Wars universe tends to put upon those with cyber parts to begin with.

I see the cost in the book as a midrange item, so to look at it you can tell it's not natural, but it is subtle enough that at distance it's fine. If you half the cost you can get a clunkier version, but I would definitely spend threat and despair as the body rejecting the cybernetic part and so that putting strain and maybe even physical pain onto the person, plus upgrades and setback to social checks done by PCs when a PC with cybernetics are around.

Add 50% onto the cost and you'll get a high end one that may not be rejected as often, and will only add a setback die to those who actively perceive the cybernetic enhancements via a perception check. Think of it as a high end cybernetic item with all the trimmings done to make sure it looks natural, akin to what Luke got in ESB, the arm is covered in synthflesh and even responds to feeling and pain. Cybernetic eyes would be more like the ones seen in the first post, that would be harder to hide, but also wouldn't scream or stand out too much.

The books have two versions of limbs and eyes, either a replica that looks like the real thing, or an "improvement" that gives you bonuses but explicitly does not look biological. I have the latter.

Thanks for these images guys.

While true, a GM, or a player if he discusses it with the GM, can come up with different ways to run things, the rules are just there as a guideline really.

Could be worse. Your childhood heroes could have infected you (without your consent) with a strange set of nanobots that effectively give you midichlorian-sensing cybernetic eyes. (Here... shake hands and we'll see if it's contagious! :) )
