So the rules say you measure range from the firing hull zone to the nearest part of the target hull zone.

BUT, do you only consider the region of the target hull zone that's in your arc? For example, I had a glad-1 today facing kind of away from a guppy (picture the hands of a clock at 10:35, and my glad is the 10 and his guppy is the minute hand).

Now, closest point to closest point, he was in my black range. But, my arc only really allowed me to shoot his side by about... a couple centimeters. As in only the back couple centimeters of the arc I was targeting was in my arc. Measuring range to THAT, he was at medium range. Do I still get to fire? Is it two separate and unrelated checks of:

check arc: Yes, his arc is in my arc

check range: Ignore arcs now, just measure closest point to closest point from hull zones.

Or does my range have to be measured to the parts of the target hull zone that are in the firing arc of my firing hull zone?

There was a photo somewhere that I thought might have clarified this but I didn't see it in the sticky thread at the top. Any help?

Yes. You do measure to what your arc can see. It is in the FAQ actually.

Thisentry should include the following paragraph:

“When measuring attack range for a ship, ignore any portion of the defender that is outside the attacking hull zone’s firing arc, even if that portion is at a closer range.”
