Conflict from for Dariside users

By fjw70, in Star Wars: Force and Destiny RPG

My F&D is in the mail and I have only heard bits and pieces of how morality works. I know light side users earn conflict for using darkside pips but do darksiders have a penalty for using white pips on the force die?

Only the penalty of spending a Destiny Point and taking strain to use them.

Thanks. I assume darkside PCs still use light side DP.

Yes, all players do. Only the GM uses Darkside DPs.

Darksiders continue to earn conflict from spending Darkside pips by the way, they just no longer have to spend the destiny point and strain to do so.

This is true. The darksider that wants to repent is going to have a steep uphill climb. He will need to avoid using Dark pips too often, take strain and DP hits to use light pips, and must have his morality rise above 70 to regain lighthood.

Good to know. Thanks.

Does morality only apply to force users?

Does morality only apply to force users?

Yes. You can use it for non Force users but in my opinion there isn't much of a point to track it unless the person is considering becoming a Force user later. In that regard the GM may want to keep a tally for non Force users just in case. But otherwise it has no real bearing on non Force users.

Thanks. That was my assumption.

We need some clarification about conflict. We pay last night, and one jedi, lie to NPC. So role say that you gain 1 conflict for Lying for personal gain: Lie for selfish reason. So Jedi lie NPC, so he get piece of information, that we need for quest. And we all agreed that jedi did not lie for personal gain. So is this correct or we play it wrong?

I would definitely say you did the right thing because as a group you discussed and agreed on the decision.

Whether other groups would give conflict in exactly the same situation will depend on each individual group. The Morality rules are more like guidelines. Different Campaigns with the same play group could even have different Moral codes.

But if everyone is happy in the group and the sessions are fun then you're doing it right.

Totally agree with Richard my group is still having a bit of trouble with morality and have kinda decided to just take it as if someone were to do something that would be considered a dark side action then they get at least one conflict.

I'm the GM and I'm mostly using a mixture of common sense and my experience with the Knight of the Old Republic game to decided what would be considered a dark side action.

But again like Richard said as long as your party is having fun then what your doing is the wright thing to do.

thanks

Really? I re-read the rules in the FaD book but I'm not sure that's how it works. Is there a FAQ?

Nevermind, I found it. It's at the end of the "Redeption from the Dark Side" sidebar.

And we all agreed that jedi did not lie for personal gain. So is this correct or we play it wrong?

Intent does matter with the conflict rules. If someone tells a lie and the motive isn't purely or primarily selfish, it won't trigger conflict. While it can be uncomfortable if you're used to more mechanistic systems, this requires judgement calls and if things aren't clear then an OOC explanation of the character's reasoning can be helpful (especially when you're all getting used to your characters).

You all agreed that it wasn't for personal gain, so you're good here.

It's a very general context. But if the sharing of that information doesn't affect the person in the slightest, it might be ok. It depends precisely what you gain from the quest and, more importantly what they have to lose.

They lose nothing? Then no worries. ^^
