B-Wing Aces. Both too fat and too small at the same time?

By burningbush, in X-Wing

One of my favorite builds is

Keyan Farlander, Advanced Sensors and PTL.

I've found that running him with almost any other ace is asking for trouble as you have already overpaid for his ability. Double dipping on the points sinks is a very bad idea. I'm almost tempted however to run Nera with Deadey, Chips and either EM with Proton torps or Flechette Torps with him. Guidance chips make Nera a real killer choice now :)

Cheers

You will probably see Fel many many times more than you see 4 advanced with missles.

I'm going to give Keyan a spin with Hera crew at least once. She opens up his full dial for those situations where his normal red moves were blocked because he couldn't spend the stress.

TLT is nice, but not unbeatable. B-Wings were, are, and will always be one of the best ships in the game.

Ten Nunb with VI and Mangler cannon and Farlander with HLC and Opportunist are nasty. The generics rank as some of the best non-upgraded generics available.

I'll be honest: I've never really been all that tempted to use B-Wing aces.

Then again, that's probably because I'm just not overly fond of B-Wings. Probably my least favorite ship in all of the Original Trilogy now that I think about it, which is probably part of the reason I just don't have much fun when I do use them.

Then again, I'm the same guy that has a blast piloting Z-95 Headhunters and the YV-666, so I might just be a crazy person.

They have no damage mitigation and aren't much better than just a Blue Squadron with FCS or Advanced Sensors or whatever.

Generic b-wings offer alot of bang for your buck but when it comes to aces your usually better off going with another ship.

Keyan can't match Corran it's not just cost but survivability, keyan can't match Poe either.

And the more points you put into him the worse his chances.

Keyan, VI,adv sensors, hlc is real good. 40 is a lot of points but he kills everything well with almost guaranteed focus/TL.

Spending 2 pts for the title and Hera is waste on Keyan. You should do red maneuvers to put him in an attack position so he can spend his stress when he attacks.

40pts on a B WIng is just way to much...youre asking for your opponent to smack the B around in 2 turns

It's kind of a niche, list, but I played a pretty hilarious list with Roark Garnet, Keyan with HLC/FCS/some other stuff/Squad Leader, and a Blue Squad with the HLC and FCS, plus a Z blocker. Two Bs blasting away at PS 12 with HLCs, one of them being Keyan who was rolling with a stress and TL to spend most of the time, was a tough challenge!

I like flying B wings but I don't use the aces becuase they cost too much. Sure their abilities are good but that makes them a fat points target with low agility. I fly Blue Squadrons mostly with minimal upgrades, usually just fire control system. Flew one yesterday with E2 and tactician beside a stresshog and it did good work. I keep looking at Dagger Squadrons for the higher 4 pilot skill as insurance against TLT and swarm lists and to reduce the effectiveness of predator.

Fly Keyan with at least opportunist next to wes janson :-)

Add wedge with Opportunist too and have fun. Expensive ships, expensive list. But target one TLT carrying Y wing at a time.

People complain TLT is too good. Complain a B-wing can't sustain focussed fire. But a Y wing can't either...

There are some upgrades which remain really strong, but overall this game is exceptionally balanced.
