Ion Projector or Anti Pursuit Laser?

By kowalski, in X-Wing

Hey guys,

I just came up with the question whether or not to choose the Ion Projector over the Anti Pursuit Laser. Many Players I know say so. But with a lot of TLT out there my thought was that a TLT ship dashing in my big ship can not fire on this one either and the ion projector does not prevent it from shooting at anything else. Sure the option of blocking a ship for 2 turns (if you have a 0 maneuver) is splendid. But I think the chance of ripping a shield of from a y or k wing seems much better nowadays.

So whats your opinion?

Look at it from your opponents point of view. What would bother them more? I would argue that for most ships that do a lot of bumping (heh heh) Ion is more of a concern than a single damage.

Also depends on what else is in your list. Can the ion allow you to bring other guns on that target and dust it? Or do you need the damage to come from your large base ship?

Personal never had opposing TLTs chase me because of the doughnut holes, so I'm the one doing the chasing :P

With that in mind, it's difficult to get those mods to proc v TLTs

So, I'd say neither

Otherwise, hard to argue with pursuit.

The obvious choice is to throw an Ion Projector on an Imperial ship with Mara Jade or, my personal favorite new combo, on pilot "Chopper".

Bump "Chopper", get stressed and ioned.

I've never really seen the Ion used. I say give 'em a whirl.

I tried an Ion Projector in my Vrill list, but after a couple of games I realized that my problem wasn't so much jousters or tanks, but repositioning aces. The ion token might prevent them from turning, but they can still boost and barrel roll. Might as well try to deal some damage.

I'm using a Latts Razzi and a Mando. Merc this weekend and both will use ion projector. If I had APL, I might run that on Latts but the Firespray should really benefit from ion.
