a prequel like Rogue One essentially becomes a character piece.
Same as Revenge of the Sith. You knew how it was going to turn out, the only real question was how it got there.

It might even shed more light on the universe, how do Rebel Spec ops operate?
What was entailed in the capture of the plans this time around?
Also, Maybe Imperial counter-operations.
Hopefully Using equipment designed by operators who operate operationally (TACTICOOL BLASTERS AND UNIFORMS!).
Yeah, I want to see Storm Commandos.
I think it could make stormtroopers look a bit better, with a cast that size they can lose one or two, would make the story better in many ways in fact.
Plus as Darius points out, it adds to the canon which is always nice.
I dont mind knowing how things end.
Its like 'downfall'. The only WWII movie with a happy ending.
You know how thats going to end from the off, its the dramatic lead up to that ending thats important.
Ditto Valkyrie
TBH and historical movie has a forgone conclusion but it doesnt stop them being good. (or bad)
I just want to see stormtroopers that know how to shoot. You know, actual villains and not an annoyance.
Trust me, if its anything like wearing a tie pilots helmet then its because you cant see a bloody thing with those buckets on

My Anovos TIE uniform still hasn't arrived, but I can confirm that wearing a TK helmet you can't see $#%#
Edited by DariusAPBI'm pretty sure that most or all of the theft team will die but I'm hoping some of the main characters are with the rebel ships fighting the battle that is occurring at the same time as the theft and their fates are more open.
FORCE AWAKENS SPOILER ALERT
The thing about watching movies, especially Star Wars movies, is by halfway through you know how it's going to end. Halfway through Force Awakens, when Starkiller Base is introduced, you know the good guys are going to go blow it up. You watch Mission Impossible, and the moment you hear what the end goal is, you pretty much know how it's going to end. Your watch Harry Potter, and the minute you hear about all of the Horcruxes keeping Voldemort alive, you know that the characters will have to destroy the Horcruxes and then kill Voldy, and that's how it'll end. Rogue One is just like that. We know that the mission is to get the plans, and because it's Star Wars, we know they'll be successful, even if we hadn't seen A New Hope.
Nobody ever complained about Columbo either. That showed you at the start who killed whom and how.
