How will the alt-art C-3P0 be distributed at store championships?

By EdgeOfDreams, in X-Wing

Specifically, I am wondering if most stores will treat C-3P0 as a participation prize, handing it out to the first 32 players who show up, or if it will be treated as an achievement prize and be given to the players who place in the top 32 (assuming there are more than 32 players attending in total).

Does anyone know how this sort of thing has generally been handled in the past?

I'm planning to show up super early for a store championship this weekend to make sure I'm one of the first to register for the tournament, but I'm worried I still might miss out on the C-3P0 card if a ton of people show up and I place poorly. Unfortunately, I don't have the time or transportation to attend several Store Championships to try to guarantee I get one.

It seems highly unlikely there will be more than 32 players at a Store Championship. I think only a handful did last year.

It's normally just a participation prize, so everyone gets one.

If you have more than 32 people showing up, I think you're supposed to get a 2nd kit, but I guess that's going to be up to each game store.

IME it's rare to have 32 people show up for a store championship unless it's a pretty big place like the FFG event center.

It's normally top 32, but as most don't get too much larger than 32 players you should not have a problem. Good luck!

We had 45 and it was issued to top 32.

I can only speak from the experience I've seen in the past, but generally it's given to the top 32. But most Store Championships in my area have between 20-30 participants. So everyone walks away with something. But that is only my experience in the greater Seattle area. I participated in 4 or 5 store championships last year. Probably will be about that many this year for me.ill end up giving a couple C3POs away to my more casual playing friends.

Enough store championships are going to have less than 32, those cards will end up on ebay for $1 or $2. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

if it's top 32, the answers to the title is "liberally"

First Phoenix store championship had 45. Cut to 8.

There are 3 stores in our area and we are always around 16 players, so we end up with 2 each, 3 times, so 6 total. :)

Again, not many stores do that.

Flat Land Games in Michigan had 46 iirc. They were handed out to top 32.

Probably one at a time.

I appreciate the thought, but I expect all of the Phoenix events will be over 32 unless the store does it quietly. If they post it to our Facebook group, 32 hits easy. We beat 16 on our regular events regularly.

Given that alt arts at Regionals are top 64, I assume the same is true for store Championships.

Check eBay in March. If history is any indication, it would be cheaper to get the "top 32" alternate art thing shipped to your house than pay the entry fee for a store championship.

Thanks everyone for the answers. Guess I'll just keep my fingers crossed that turn out is in the 30 to 40 range at most. I'd be pretty disappointed in myself if I couldn't place in the top 32 out of less than 40 players.

That just seems counter intuitive. Why would you not wanna spend a day playing X-wing? Outside of time restrictions and obligations.
