*HELP* Critique my custom murder mystery adventure

By Ian2400, in Game Masters

Hi everyone! If any kind souls have time and don't mind reading a bunch of stuff I've written, I'd love thoughts on a murder mystery adventure arc I've written for my PCs. It's a touch specific to them, but with a little maneuvering I think a lot of other groups could make use of it as well. I've attempted as much as I can to get the formatting the same way that the official source books have it (thanks to progressions, here). The primary things I'm worried about are if I've balanced the time mechanic well enough, and if I've left enough information scattered around the world. Particularly with regards to the PCs having any idea that choosing Momba at the end is a real option.

Thanks in advance if anyone takes a look, I'd love to even go a step further to generalize both this adventure as well as the rest of my campaign if it is good enough to be useful to other GMs. This is the first of three acts that I have planned.

Wife pointed out a plot hole, I've patched that and fixed some formatting, and sprinkled a couple more clues throughout. Also adjusted some of the times, though I still need to do a thorough speccing out of how the timeline might really play out.

Ok, made some more adjustments, both to the dialogue to make it a little better, and to the timeline (same links should work). The PCs should now have just enough time to see about everything assuming they don't **** around a ton, and if they want the best resolution they'll have to act on very limited information, causing conflict. Still need to do some minor review of the clues to make certain there are at least two sources of each bit of information. Not that I'm sure that's the best way to go about it, I'm sort of making this up as I go.

Still very interested if anyone has feedback. Since I went through all the formatting effort, I was going to try and add additional content to my campaign afterwards about character creation to try and make the whole campaign adaptable a-la the official sourcebooks. I guess I'm not sure to what degree people share campaigns/adventures here, is this just something no one is interested in?

Hi, This sounds really intriguing but when I tried to have a look at this it's not letting me view your Dropbox files... Not sure if it's because I'm trying to access it from my phone though??

I haven't had experience in DMing, but it looks well setout enough, with enough references to the wildlife preserve and red herrings to ensure that they use up a fair amount of time.

Alright, fixed another small plot hole, and re-saved everything to dropbox as PDF files so they are easier to pull up. It seems to have maintained most of the formatting.

First session done, they are just getting to the afternoon of day 1. I need to write up a section about how to handle the investigation questioning sections. Essentially, I have them roll a check depending on the mode of questioning they are going for, and answer their questions with the relevant info based on success/advantage. In a few cases, I let them re-roll if they switch the mode of questioning in some notable way, like playing good cop/bad cop. So far they've been throwing around ideas, some of which are correct facts some of which are way off base. I think that means it is going well!

Good stuff! I actually sat down before the first session and enumerated what I believed to be the 'important' clues and went through to make sure every one of them had 2-3 places where they dropped, but this brings up the good point that even that may not be enough, I've already had to be rather.... generous with dropping clues. They've only 'fully' explored one area so far, so I may go back and pepper more clues around other areas based on this. Already started by dropping some more things in shantytown, will evaluate more over the weekend.

Thanks!
