Thinking about F&D campaign on Coruscant with a cyberpunk-flavor, and need input.

By derroehre, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

what is this corporate sector i hear mentioned so much? wookiepedia is sparse with information.

Coruscant could be perfect, depending on how you structure things during its years as "Imperial Center".

If the PCs are going to be Force sensitive and actively so, and Coruscant is the very heart of Palpatine's "dark side cult of personality" during those years, it's going to be almost impossible to hide. There will always be Inquisitors and Acolytes coming and going. The rewards posted for turning in "rogue" Force users are going to be high, and very tempting for those living in the "warrens" of the planet-city.

Coruscant is a planet with over 5000 levels on a planetwide city with over a million million inhabitants. And IIRC in addition to that there is even an Undercity beneath - could be wrong. Honestly, I don't think the empires reach goes far enough down to find everyone, and I don't recall the names , but i think there were a few Jedi that fled into the city after order 66, don't know what happened to them though.

Yes, if the are drawing attention as force users to themselves things get uncomfortable very fast.

I think the main thing is to think it through and consider all the implications of any choice, forwards and backwards.

If Force sensitives can operate on Coruscant without constantly drawing the attention of hunters, Inquisitors, and Imperial police, that says something different about the place, than if their first use of Sense draws the full weight down on them.

I'm confident you could do a campaign about Force-users hiding out on Coruscant. I just think that the "hiding out" part would take up a lot more story space than it would on other planets.

But that's totally fine. It might give you a chance to explore and develop the Coruscant Underworld -- maybe something akin to an Underground Railroad for fugitive Force-users/Jedi?

Maybe. You are in the heart of Empire. While not as complacent as the Republic, they still have a labyrinth of bureaucracy to go through. Unconfirmed Force usage would not likely draw the attention of an inquisitor right away. Those resources are too precious for them to be spent on every rumor.

Likely, they would send a local law enforcer first to question the witnesses. Followed by an agent of the empire.

I suspect an inquisitor would only be involved once the evidence was absolute. In the case of Rebels, a trusted ISB agent witnessing a Jedi take down his squadron.

Which is precisely the story behind the Coruscant Nights series of novels. It's quite a cool series to give ideas for any F&D campaign. If we are going steampunk-esque I'd also recommend Czerka Corporation popping up, as they tend to have a habit of being in the middle of technological crises.

Czerka's unofficial company motto should be "Really? Again?"

There is a gang of dark side freaks called Smokers that occupy the utility levels under the Jedi Temple. They are encouraged by the current Head Inquisitor so as to corrupt the holy mountain around which the Jedi Temple was created.

They like to race and terrorize nearby neighborhoods in their sooped up swoops. They get their name from the swoop mods they install that makes their exhaust plume black smoke as they race through the trenches and alleys of Coruscant. Many of the leaders, are latent dark siders and use wicked weapons made out of scrap. While they usually don't go into the Jedi Temple itself (They get bad feelings about that) they would hamper anyone trying to sneak in through the sewer levels to find out more about the extinct jedi that used to reside there.

The idea is nice but consdiering the F&D core says that the jedi temple has become the Imperial Palace i highly doubt any swoop gang is going to be allowed to occupy even the under levels. But that could work quite well for a separate location, like a meditation retreat, somewhere else on Coruscant

Why is this thread even here? If you like the idea of multiple Jedi running around when Luke is supposed to be "our last hope?"

And contemplating putting your little band of Jedi right under the Emperor's nose on Coruscant? *shaking head*

Please post this stuff in the F&D section.

Sheesh...

PS - A cyberpunk campaign does indeed sound cool though. And definitely fits with the feel of Edge.

PPS - The Corporate Sector Authority has its roots in the old (yes, published in the midst of the OT) Han Solo trilogy, specifically the first two books - "Han Solo at Star's End" and "Han Solo's Revenge." If you enjoy really well-written yet pulpy sci-fi? You're in for a treat as Brian Daley knocked it out of the park with these...

Think of the CSA as "legal Hutts" and you've about got the gist of it. They're to the business world what the Hutt Cartel is to organised crime, only with open Imperial backing. The Han Solo books from the old EU are pretty solid as well; definitely worth a read. The exact specifics are post EU-wipe, unfortunately, rather vague. One can glean from TCW that the corporate sector used to be a sector of space defined and regulated by corporate entities which literally owned planets and populations. How far this is still accurate in new canon's current timeline (or even during its Galactic Empire) is unclear.

If you don't mind old EU, "Han Solo And The Corporate Sector" was released as a splat by West End Games and can probably be used for FnD as well.

It's not what Wookieepedia says about the temple. Don't know where FFG got their info but the temple is largely abandoned except for some tours for Imperial Elitists. Whether someone wants to use what's in F&D or what they can find elsewhere it's up to them.

That's definitely true, but wookiepeedia ins't always right (see the hwk-29o dimesions debate ). Personally i think that F&D solution is much more sensible and neat, but your game, your rules.

Actually, according to canon the Jedi Temple became the Imperial Palace.

Where is this "canonized" ?
