My repaint project

By Red 7, in X-Wing

So I decided to continue with my personalized theme for my Imperial ships of the 117th.

STRIPES!

IMG_20160519_163747_zpsojp9h7bl.jpg

I have one more Tie Interceptor to repaint, and I was thinking about doing an inverted Royal Guard Tie Interceptor scheme... Grey ship with red details on the wings and guns.

I was thinking that I could then use it to distinguish Soontir from the others.

Thoughts?

I say go for it, but then again I like everything that you do!

I ended up painting the Tie Interceptor the same way as the other grey one

Then I was looking at some studio models of the original Rogue Sqaudron x-wings and found myself wishing that Porkins had a better pilot skill so that I could justify painting an x-Wing in his color scheme :(

Then it occurred to me that I could use the elements of Porkins' ship that I like on a T-70! That way I get to use Red 6 as a reference AND have the performance of a T-70.

I am unsure if I should leave the canopy as is or paint it blue in a closer representation of Porkins' Red 6.

Here is a reference pic, please feel free to share your thoughts

Here is a little more progress on my Blue 2 and 3 T-70s.

My phone is being temperamental and I was only able to upload a rear shot!

AH HA!!!

I got the other pictures uploaded!

As you can see, I have added certain details to provide squad cohesion, such as the orange markings on the left hand side of the nose (This may also help to tie them in with Poe's Black 1T-70  ) , and the triangle on the top of the nose.

I have also added details to distinguish the T-70s from one another. Blue cockpit vs Grey, different colouring around the engine intakes, and different blaster colouring placement.

I decided to use the same wing markings as Rogue squadron, just because I love Rogue Squadron and the OT ;) .

The detail and weathering work was fun on these guys.

I just need to finish the Astromech on Blue 2 and I am done. I am thinking that I will go with a red astromech for contrast.

Phenomenal work as usual! Maybe soon I can get some work done by you!

Thanks Beowolf777.

Just say the word :)

So after A LOT of thought, I made up my mind that I was going to distinguish my "character" Imperial pilots such as Soontir and Howlrunner by giving them little imperial symbols on their wings. I decided to paint the symbols over the wing markings that I am using to distinguish the 117th with.

There are some great painters out there, and I thank you for you inspiration.

Here is my humble submission:

Awesome!

They are painted?!?!?...

...air-brush over stencil? (surely not free-hand! - if it is, then phwooor !)

Thank you ABXY.

They are indeed tree hand.

Took me a while to figure out a method that works for me, but I think I got there.

This whole thread is full of awesome repaints. I tip my hat off to you, sir. Very well done.

Thank you!

I really enjoy painting these models, and having an awesome community like this to share them in makes it all the more enjoyable.

Next up is a Tie Phantom!

I have been excited about painting the cloaking effect for a LONG time.

Here is a concept pic of the Phantom and two of its Tie Fighter escorts :P

On a more serious note. I hope to pick up the new ship later today  :D

So I just picked up my Tie Phantom!!! What an awesome model!

As I mentioned above, I am very excited about painting the cloaking effect on this model.

As such, I found a schematic on line and have tried my hand at deciding which areas to have the ship cloaked.

Please feel free to give feedback and suggestions.

I am done painting the Tie Phantom. What a fun model to paint!

Tonnes of details and such a cool design.

now I just need to add the cloaking effect!!! :)

The cloaking effect looks really good! It would be nice to do something with the canopy and cockpit though. I think leaving the original paint detracts from what you did.

Red, I've a loonnng long to-do list before I can post a legit repaint thread, but I'm trying to keep track of all my inspirations.

Would you be cool with me using the running light idea on the inside of the TIE/Advanced solar panels?

(And before anyone asks, if he says "I kinda wanted it to stay unique", I would totally respect that. There may be little honor on the internet, but I have my own personal bizzareness that prompts me to ask permission and follow through with the progenitor's decision).

If so, when I finally post a pic of similar, I will be sure to tout my inspiration and link back to this thread.

Love the broken-up cloak effect instead of solidly starting at the front or back of the ship. Cool idea!

Now you see me, now you..... well ok, you can still see me :P

I am pretty happy with how this turned out.

Feel free to leave any comments and/or constructive criticism

Superb!

Thank you all for the positive feedback. :D

I took a gamble by not using the standard front or back cloaking effect on the phantom. I have not seen it done on this ship before, and I am glad that it worked out.

I was inspired by Sixwood's cloaking hawk which can be seen towards the bottom of the linked page

@ Juxstapo

Please feel free to use anything that I have done as reference material.

Even though it is not necessary, thank you for asking ;)

So I decided to redo my Tie FOs.

I removed the Tie SF cockpit makings that I had painted and added the signature stripes of my very own 117th :)

Of course I have also added green lasers and OSL ion thrusters for consistency ;)

Well, not gonna say much more than my normal praise as you never do less than amaze... I will say that I love your cloaking and I think that it seems perfect for the cloaking of the imperial quality. So now I have found purpose in this style for Phantoms and the style of Polda for the illicit version for the scum faction. This is only to say that I want both styles sooooo badly!

Thank you for sharing and keep up the great work... you really need to get your thread moved over to the Painting and Mod Forums, but it is always nice to see your work where ever I find it.

Is there no end to FFG's ability to keep creating ships and cards that we MUST HAVE!!!? :P

How do I go about getting my thread moved?

I think that I am going to go old school and order/paint up a Y-Wing next!
