My repaint project

By Red 7, in X-Wing

So I have started working on the A Wing!

Again I can't believe how much fun these models are to paint!

My Rebel Aces Are going to have a red theme to them which I am very excited about.

I should be able to put some pictures of the A Wing up tomorrow.

I almost forgot, I have RE positioned the B Wing So that it is on an angel.

I was planning on making an Imperial Ground Support squadron, repainted green just to get a different flavor out of them. Yellow stripes for kill denominations and stuff.

So here is the progress to date on my Rebel Aces A Wing.

He is not finished yet, but the pic shows enough that you can see where I am going with it.

I basically just inverted the standard A Wing paint scheme, and decided to keep the Rebel Aces' test pilot A Wing details.

I think that it actually turned out quite nicely, AND represents my home country of Canada pretty well too! :P

I am finding it difficult to decide what color I am going to paint the laser cannon housings... Red or Black are the options I like the best so far.

I am also wondering if I should add some color to the sides of the engine housings or leave them grey/white...

Once these decisions are made, I will add some more details, a little weathering, and then it is on to my B-Wing.

Please feel free to leave comments and suggestions!

A-Wing looks great, the traditional colours inverted really works!

Finished A-Wing!

It was a big deal for me to venture away from the original color scheme of the A-Wing, but I think that it has actually worked out quite nicely.

Are you putting a wash on a base coat? Looks nice.

I applied a base color coat to the blue center strip of the model, this was to ensure that the blue didn't come through. I then painted dark red and covered that with a lighter red. The rest I just painted over the original paint. I then black lined everything. I used washes to add weathering but that was it.

Repainting these models really gives you a whole new level of appreciation for the detail on them.

The B Wing is awesome!

It is going to take a lot longer to paint than I thought, but I feel that it will be worth all the hard work.

Perhaps I will post a WIP...

They usually help to highlight all of the mistakes :P

Here is the slow but steady progress on the B-Wing:

That's unfinished?!?

That's looking really cool, the all-red scheme is very striking! Have you reposed the cockpit there so it's level? That's very neat work if so!

That's unfinished?!?

Yes.

Everything is only a little more than undercoated at this stage.

I want to add some squad markings, add some colour and contrast to the engine section, black line, and paint the laser barrels a light grey so that they add some balance to the paint scheme.

Then I will probably add some battle damage/wear and tear.

I don't know what's wrong with me really.

I just can't leave things well enough alone  :P

I did preposition the cockpit.

I was able to pop it of and just cut the existing pin so that the refit was nice and secure.

Do you have any green?

No. I am out.

Green As do look nice though.

Please, what kind of paint do you use? I want to try painting, but I don't want to kill an otherwise good ship by using the wrong paint.

I use Vallejo paints, but regardless of the brand you use you will need to ensure that you thin it down.

Always remember that covering a model in several thin coats is better than on thick one, especially with the details being so fine.

Thanks!

Nice! Must say I really liked the red A-wing, but this blue is very cool too.

Here is the third incarnation of my Rebel Aces A Wing! :P

I decided to add a little weathering to this one, pretty happy with the results

Fantastic! I liked the previous versions, but that is just perfect! Great colour choice and placement, suitable weathering, basically awesome!
