The B-wing is absolutely amazing!!! My compliments, sir!
My repaint project
A little quicker than expected
Ironically enough, Jake was originally a regular A-Wing and what is now Tyco was the Jake model from Rebel Aces
I have weathered my Jake a little more than his ship on the pilot card. I did this because I like my rebels to be weathered.
One question I do have and was hoping for your thoughts on is...
Should I keep the blue panel on the side of Jake that ties him in a little more with Tyco and Arvel, or take it off so that it is more accurate with the art on his pilot card?
Here is the other side.
After posting the above pic, I didn't like the scratches and chips on the red, so I changed them... still not completely satisfied with it yet.
Who would have thought that painting a model to look been up, weathered, and messy would be so hard!
There are at least 5 different applications of paint just for the weathered green! And I had to mix the green from blue and yellow because I don't have any green paint at the moment!
I still have a lot of work to do, but it is definitely a fun model to paint.
Feel free to leave comments and/or suggestions (the constructive kind of course
)
So I would say that I am 90+% done the Slave 1!
I just wanted to post a couple of WIP pics for the odd chance that anyone has some constructive criticism to share.
I have tried for a pretty weathered look with lots of faded/chipped paint and scratches.
The OSL on the engines was fun to paint. It is a different approach than I usually use for OSL given that I didn't add much in the way of "glow" around the engines.
I used this youtube clip (around the 38 second mark) as a reference for the engines:
Enjoy, and feel free to comment.
Love the OSL on those Firespray engines! So many people go way overboard there.
I have to agree! Love the engines!
So I think that it is time to show some love to the dark side.
My next purchases will be the Imperial Aces and Tie Phantom expansions.
All of the ships will of course receive blood stripes.
I am thinking white stripes on the Royal Guard Tie Interceptor...
I am excited to try my hand at painting the Phantom decloaking!
I know that this has been done to death, but I am still looking forward to trying it
I am going to be true to my indecisive form and change my mind.
I am now ordering the Imperial Aces Expansion, the Tie Advanced Expansion, and another A-Wing!
I am trying to stay focused on my goal of having a collection that contains the Original Trilogy ships, and not get (too
) distracted by all of the other EU ships and cool cards.
Nothing says OT like Lord Vader in a Tie Advanced. As such, I decided to order one.
Imperial Aces will give me some cool cards (PTL) and Pilots, and A-Wigs are my favourite ships to fly so naturally I need another one of those
I will be placing the order early next week.
The plan now is that the Interceptors will both be painted royal guard red. Vader will get my Imperial blood stripes, and the A-Wing will be painted in an alternate Rebels blue paint scheme.
You'll want to print out or photocopy the upgrades for Vader that come in the raider.
Vader will be sad without them.

I completely agree with you, and Vader's "need" of upgrades was a significant factor that I struggled with in my decision to order a Tie Advanced.
That being said, I am still not caught up on wave 3 as far as ships go, so I think that Vader will do just fine as part of my present collection.
I just received my Imperial Aces, Tie Advanced, and A-Wing expansions!!!
Now I just need to find the time to repaint these beautiful models!
Red Squadron X-wings(from the novelization)
In celebration of the arrival of my Imperial Aces and Tie Advanced expansions I headed over to the Squad Benchmark site and played against the AI with an Imperial Aces list that I threw together.
As usual (for me), I only used the cards that I actually own.
HERE is how it went.
I must admit that I had a lot of fun. And this was without any of the Tie Advanced "fixes"
Auto thrusters are really a pain. You can see that I figured it out and closed in for range 1 towards the end of the game.
I was actually really proud of my flying! You have to love the maneuverability if Tie Interceptors (look at my final positioning when I took out IG-88C)
I wasn't being given my free boost/barrel role after shooting with Turr Phennir for some reason
...
But I won anyway, so all is forgiven.
Here is the completed Star Wars Rebels A-Wing paint scheme.
I have paid a fair bit of attention to detail on this repaint, and have done my best to replicate the above artwork. I also tried the weathering/scratches/chips techniques that I learned on the Slave 1. I wasn't sure how it would work on a small ship, but I am happy with the results
Here he is with with his squad mates:
One more A-Wing and I can play THIS list!!!

Beautiful work on the Rebel Awing!
Phoenix Squadron inbound!
Edited by ironkodiakI have you now!!!
I repainted my Tie Advanced to fit in with my other Imperial ships ie: a darker grey.
I added Ion thrusters with OSL to Vader's Tie Advanced as well as referencing his X-Wing card and painting OSL on the inside of his wings.
As usual I have changed the lasers to green.
I don't think I am going to add the usual blood stripes in honor of the Sith Lord homself
Very Nice !
Great job on the Engine glow. very effective.
All the best,
Barry.
Great work, as usual !!!
Next up are my Imperial Aces Tie Interceptors
So I managed to get my Royal Guard Tie Interceptor finished.
I repainted the red, added darker grey details as opposed to white, did blue OSL ion thrusters instead of red for obvious reasons
, and added my usual green lasers.
I am still torn as whether or not to add the blood stripes that I have used on my other Imperials or not.... I am still undecided on the same question with my Tie Advanced... Thoughts?
This is what I used for reference art:
