Having such a high baseline for the models being used is definitely a good thing.
But the rule of cool still doesn't adequately explain the difference I feel in regards to painting for this game compared to 40K.

I've never painted for 40K, I haven't even played it. But I have an idea as to why it's more fulfilling. When I see 40K being played, there are dozens of models on the board at a time. In X-Wing, each model has an identity. They each have a roll to play that is more prominent compared to a single model in 40K. So your paintjob of a model adds to that model's identity. I've painted only a couple models, but I love using the painted one's as much as possible. I love to see my handiwork accomplish on the board. Maybe it is the same for you?

Great observation! I think you hit the nail on the head there!
As per my usual inability to keep my mind made up.....
I decided to strip and repaint the B Wing AGAIN!!!!
This time I went for a more "movie accurate" version using this awesome art as reference material:
I decided to skip the dots as I am not really feeling them... Perhaps I will add them at a later date.
I am happier with this version than the Dagger Squadron B Wing, I think I over did it with the weathering on the previous version.
Comments and constructive criticism is welcome as always

Great painting skills but (I'm really sorry) I think the dots lift it. I understand if you dont like them but I think it needs them because with out them its very monochrome. This is completely personal taste.
Thanks for the feedback.
Do you know if the B Wings have the dot in the movies?
I have seen a few different dot placements on the internet...
Any one know of a good place to get accurate reference material of the B Wing?
I'm not sure but I can tell you the old Kenner toy had the dots.
I think that this answers the question nicely:

Dots it is!
I guess they will be orange to
I was able to free hand the small circles on the sides of the cockpit, so heres hoping that I can do the larger ones on the wings!
Thank you.
So I have been a very spoiled man!
For my birthday this year I have been given the following:
- Millenium Falcon Expansion
- Force Awakens Core set
- And a Star Wars set containing the first 6 movies on blue-ray
I am SOOO excited!!!
BUT... It has raised some questions for me in regards to my Imperials.
As you can see from the thread, I decided to go with blood stripes on the left wings of my Imperial ships.
Now that I have two FO Ties, I am wondering if the stripes will look good on them, or if I should repaint all the ties and the interceptor to have the very cool looking red FO special forces Tie cockpit panelling...
And perhaps even have white paneling on the wings?.......
Please share your thoughts and/or pics links that will help me in making this decision
Edited by Red 7So I decided to work on my T-70 while I think about what to do with my Tie FOs. I am going with a blue squadron pilot first, then if I decide to get another T-70 I will do Poe's black 1. Pics should be up later this week or early next.
There is still a real dearth of reference material for anything other than Poe's X Wing, so I will be exercising a little creative liscence with some of the markings...
Here are some of my thoughts:
- Where Poe's ship has orange and grey stripes going across the nose of it, I was thinking of having blue and orange on my ship to tie it in with my future Poe repaint.
- For the wing markings where Poe has 3 orange and 2 grey stripes on each wing. I will have 2 blue and 3 grey
What do you guys think?
Do you have any other ideas?
Edited by Red 7So here is my first T-70 X-Wing:
I did a fair bit of blending on the blue areas.
I went with three wing stripes because I like the number 3
And I added orange stripes to the nose, just so that this ship will tie in with Poe's Black T-70 if I ever get another one
Only thing I haven't painted is the astro mec... Just havent been inspired in regards to what colour to make it yet.
1 more Tie FO and then I am on to the Millennium Falcon!
I'm feeling Kinda nervous about repainting the Falcon because it is such an iconic ship and I want to do it justice.
Fos are finished!!!
On to the Falcon!!!!!!
I just ordered Slave 1 to keep me motivated too
It is way too easy to spend a lot of money in a VERY short period of time with this game!!!
No offense, but why would you paint a TIE/fo to look like a TIE/sf when the sf is most likely coming soon, and also a pretty different ship?
I've taken inspiration from Red 7 and done one of my FOs with the red marking on the cockpit (and all with engine glow). Mainly just to have them as the named pilot in a squad.
@ OddballE8
No offense taken.
I have painted my FOs this way because I think it looks cool and I like to have markings on my imperial ships that ties them all together.
My regular ties all have blood stripes, and all my FOs will have the red cockpits
@ InterceptorMad
I saw your FOs on the painting thread. Very nice job!
Made a SOLID start on the Falcon today.
Painting these models takes my appreciation of the detail on them to a whole other level. The paint is actually REALLY close to the studio models as well!
I will post some WIP picks tomorrow for you to check out.
I also just picked up my Slave 1 today!!!
My falcon is complete!!!!
This was a very fun model to paint!
I feel that I learned a lot about painting Star Wars ships during the process.
The pictures turned out a bit lighter than the actual model, so you can see a lot more of the weathering and battle damage IRL.
I am also sad to report that the engine doesn't actually look quite as impressive IRL, BUT it does look really good IMHO
Enjoy, and as always, feel free to comment.
Just picked up a new A Wing and I am in the process of making him Jake Ferrell!
Progress will be slow and steady, stay tuned.
