We play X-Wing now .. but what did we play yesteryear?

By Conandoodle, in X-Wing Off-Topic

For me it all started with this game.

I took care of a neighbor's cats for a week and they paid me $10 so I got this game (that was like 1979 or so... $10 was a lot of money) Wanted to get AD&D but my parents were told that it lead to devil worship. Funny enough I hadn't read the novel when I got the game. I did get the book a few weeks after I got the game and it has become a book I read every few years since.

After Starship troopers I started with the Travelers black book. Then after that it was AD&D regardless of what my parents said, CarWars, Battletech and the rest.

Believe it or not, I have that game sitting on the shelf behind me.

I've often been tempted to find it again. But I'm pretty sure it would cost a good deal more than I paid for it, and I'm not sure I'd have much more luck finding someone else to play it with me.

If you played COR3-15, Nine Lives, that was my module.

Nope. I'm an alumnus of Clemson University, which meant we were in the Gran March. I remember hearing about that module, though! It helped fuel my life-long prejudice against gnomes. ;)

One of my most treasured possessions. It was lost during one of multiple moves.

I was so happy to see FFG do a hat tip to WEG by including Roark Garnett as a pilot.

Pixelating that made the picture look naughtier than it really is :D

I know right? That's what I thought. I just don't know how ...er.....sensitive....the community is regarding barbie doll nakedness so I went for playing it safe

I used to be a Warhammer Fantasy player in another life... currently I'm selling off a load of my GW stuff and shifting to x-wing.

Man, I wish I still had all of those :\

You can still find the PDFs online ;)

Yeah, I have done that but as an old man, there's a certain tactile experience that goes with it all. A few years ago I bought my old D&D stuff and holding/smelling it (weird as that sounds) really took me back to my childhood.

Which is why I bought the WEG 1st edition Star Wars RPG I owned on eBay as a result of this thread :P

I know exactly what you mean. There is something about those glossy pages in the middle...

I'm probably headed to ebay now. Just so you know, if my wife asks, I'm blaming you.

Funny, I always wanted "Talisman" but never spent the money on it.

This. Probably thousands of hours spent on this. My good buddies and I still refer to K-Turns as a bootlegger reverse.

I have the new version plus expansions. It satisfies my questing needs now that I can't ever get 4 players together for an RPG, and it takes less time to complete the whole game that it does to run one, 3 fight adventure.

Still, it is a pretty random dice orgy, brother...!
