Yeah, so far that is about the only real option.

You could replace threepio and the upgrade with artoo, but I think threepio works better.

If you are willing to take a few meatbags you could switch sides.

Sorin - 8 pts

Elite Officer - 5 pts

Elite Probe Droid x2 - 10 pts

Temporary Alliance - 1 pt

HK-Assassin Droidx2 - 16 pts

You could also swap out the Two elite probes for 3 regulars and add a targeting computer.

I like the idea or Sorin and the Elite officer giving your droids extra attacks.

Sorin would also give your adjacent droids access to Focus and Stun as well as letting you use leader command cards.

With the list above you'd have 6 three dice attack droids with two extra units to let them attack.
