Hi all,

I'd love to have a bit of feedback on a list I've been thinking of. I've been playing for awhile now, and after expanding my collection substantially I have really wanted to use more of the HWK-290, and more specifically the rebel version as I feel it needs a little love (especially after scum got Palob, by far my favorite pilot).

So my list is:

Poe Dameron — T-70 X-Wing 31

Predator 3

R2-D2 4

Autothrusters 2

"Red Ace" — T-70 X-Wing 29

BB-8 2

Integrated Astromech 0

Ship Total: 31

Kyle Katarn — HWK-290 21

I've thought about switching out Rec Spec for Moldy Crow, or maybe even making him into a TLT platform but that leaves little options for extra things. I've also considered using Roark.

The idea is that Poe does what he does best and survives with decent action economy, while Red Ace becomes a tank with his/ her ability and integrated Astro, (or autothrusters?) along with BB-8. Kyle stays in the thick of it passing out ions and focuses alike.

Thoughts?

I know the hawk's dial sucks. That's a fact we won't get around. Other than the bad dial though, I've always thought it was alot better of a ship than given credit for. That might Just be a product of my exclusively playing imperial (turrets? What are those?) but I think as long as you go in protecting Kyle he'll do exactly what he was designed to do. Improve your lists action economy by being a focus battery. Don't expect more out of him than that (and the occasional ion hit) and I figure your list will do well enough.

Hmmm... Kyle without Moldy Crow?

I'm with you on the "let's get out the HWK" feeling, but it's hard to find a place for it between poor maneuvers and low health.

First of hing I say as far as this list goes is: I always run Kyle with Moldy Crow to save up the extra focus. If I don't have RecSpec because of points or wanting a different crew then I set up wit Kyle sideways in one corner and run him across my side of the board to store up while my opponent crosses the whole board to engage.

As far as "Red Ace" is concerned I think his ability is begging for a Comm Relay since he's the only X-Wing that can get his own evade tokens. Unless you're expecting to get hit a lot, in that case drop the relay (because it limits you to holding one evade at a time) and you need a regen droid so you can get that token more times, maybe indefinitely

Consider my changes if you like: switch Predator and R2-D2 for Lone Wolf and R5-P9 on Poe, saves 2pts. Then trade Red's BB-8 for R2-D2, spends 2pts. This redistributes points and takes better advantage of Red's ability which is dependent on losing shields by essentially giving you more shields. For a little more I might drop autothrusters (almost redundant with Lone Wolf anyways) from Poe altogether to upgrade Kyle to a TLT in addition to MC over RC and have 1 point leftover or add determination to Kyle.

I'm guessing there's only 1 integrated astro cuz you only have 1 T-70 pack (don't blame you, it's hard for me to justify another one). If you can add (or proxy) another, that's a free upgrade.

The problem with these three pilots is that they are just a wee bit too expensive to fit into 100 points with all of the upgrades they 'need'.

Kyle needs moldy crow and a turret.

Red ace needs comm relay + regen droid.

Poe needs regen droid (well, he can do okay with BB-8 + push the limit, but that's actually more pricey than R5-P9 + VI).

In addition, the list is just begging for Jan Ors crew. All that together is 100 to 102 points depending on choice of turret. Dorsal Turret makes the list 'work' by dropping it down to 99, leaving just enough to grab Veteran Instincts on Poe.

So it would look like this:

Poe w/ VI, R5-P9 & integrated astro = 35

Red ace w/ comm relay, R2-D2 + integrated astro = 36

Kyle w/ dorsal turret, moldy crow & jan ors crew = 29

A note on integrated astro: don't play it unless it means saving your ship from death.
