Long will this day be remembered, for it has seen the end of Avatar's insignificant dominance of the North American box office.
Like the Old Republic before it, those over grown blue smurff remnants of a past age have been swept away by The Force Awakens.
This Will Be a Day Long Remebered
Any bets on who will beat episode 7? Maybe 9?
I'm glad to see this.
Despite Episode 7 taking a safe formula and following Expanded Universe sensibilities (which frankly I am not opposed to), I found it to be a much better movie than Avatar, which to me was graphic spectacle laid on an overly formulaic plot.

JarJar Wars Episode I: Mesa Fight Bombad Robots
It's going to be the hot new spinoff series retelling everything from the perspective of everyone's favorite character.
I had no doubts. Avatar was even more overrated than this movie (though I greatly enjoyed this movie)!

Titanic II
Alternatively:
Xenomorphs Vs. Gungans Vs. Justin Bieber Vs. 80's Robocop Vs. 90's Terminator Vs. Predators Vs. Judge Dredd.
I'd totally watch that movie.
Especially if it had Sasha Gray.

its hard being more overrated than tfa, but yes, av atar was even more so.
Avatar was pretty. It went crazy because it was one of the very, very first movies to do 'modern' 3D, and remains one of the few to actually nail it. (I find the digital, fix-it-in-post 3D stuff to be much lower quality, I'm afraid to say.) It also had a veritable juggernaut of advertising, as these things tend to do.
For all its flaws, Episode 7 is actually a good movie.
And with the Star Wars label and Disney's marketing muscle, it got a fair fight. I'm not at all shocked it won. ![]()

Some one edited out most of Jar Jar's dialog and most of the horrible stuff, still not great movies but they are so much better than the originals.
and just for fun the "despeicalized" OT:

well, he got the first part right ![]()
It would be good if it could beat Gone with the Wind its still number 1 when adjusted for inflation

it's 30 years of advertisement
Disney could just named a date and still make a billion

Isn't that like saying "This ship can't sink"?
Oh, spoilers there, for those who haven't seen Titanic...

No chance. Too much competition even if the overall movie going audience is larger.
Maybe TFA will stay in lot of markets through June because that may be needed to beat some of the numbers for other movies. If you look at the worldwide box office Titanic has the advantage of being based on what may be a pretty significant historical event that resonated.
I'd venture the reason TFA is still doing well is because what real competition has shown up since it's release?

The new Birth of a Nation is about the Nat Turner revolt. There are multiple reasons I want that movie to become the biggest movie of all time.

A review from Red letter media.
Warning graphic content to that of TV ratings M:svl.
Star Wars thanks new and long time fans for the record breaking milestone

"AVATAR" was complete dreck. I haaaated that movie. About **** time something beat it.
Come on Star Wars! Kick Titanic's ass! RULE AS KING! Even though I actually like Titanic!

Avatar, despite its kumbaya alien magicness, was good science fiction, in that it at least respected science and was very careful about the handwavium it did use. My god man, tractor engines, polymer radiation shielding and RADIATORS, I'm just sorry the Colonial Marines lost the fight against the Xenomorphs.

Doesn't matter though, the movie industry is so obsessed with milestones, it's both sickening and hilarious at the same time.
Soon we'll have the movie with the biggest opening of a july 23rd, 12:45.
I have always enjoyed Avatar (never loved it) as it a visually stunning movie.
The one thing that grinds me .. Unobtanium.
I thought, nothing in the future of the human race will ever be named with less imagination .. that is until I bought some Tefal non-stick saucepans made with 'resistium'.
Not surprised at all. It could have been a terrible movie and still smashed the box office from hype alone.
It'll never top the adjusted by inflation list, though I wouldn't be surprised if one of the next ones did as more people will want to see those.

Well that Iceburg sure did... Too Soon?
