More precisely about "All attached ships must have the same ship type."
So today I finished Rebels season 1 (yeah I know I am very late) and in last episode, they clearly dock a Tie Fighter AND a Tie Adv.(anced
) Prototype at the sametime on the Gozanti when they escape.
So why is there this limitation?
P.S. Not a dead serious question, just to create some discussion.
So... about Docking Clamps card
game balance > game fluff
(already discussed - sorry)
In that same season it showed a Gozanti delivering two AT-PT to combat. I would guess, as a later FAQ, it would be allowed to deliver any two (only two) ships into combat. For now, up to four of one type is the norm.
From a logistics point of view you would not want to dock different ships to it. (but it's probably about perceived game balance)

Hardly fair.
Better to think of it as "If you choose not to take fighters on your Gozanti, you get a free cargo slot instead". ![]()
Besides, it's perfectly thematic to think that all the docking and supply equipment takes up otherwise-free cargo space.

I haven't put a whole lot of brain power into it, but I don't see the ballance issue in dropping a TIE and TIE Bomber on the same turn.

It feels like future proofing to me, just in case something silly later became possible by combining Tie types on a carrier.
So, I don't have a Gozanti yet but are you guys saying you can't dock ANY ships without the docking clamps?

Correct. It has to take the docking clamps card to be able to dock ships (they have to dock somewhere), and the DC upgrade requires that all docked ships be of the same type.

Just because I enjoy navel-gazing:
Logistically all TIE Fighter models have basically the same engine, that's one of the beauties of the model, and ideal from a maintenance point of view.
Strategically, it makes no sense to field this ship without any attached craft (unless you need a beautiful 'shaggin wagon'), thus the card is a bit of a rip-off in that it takes a slot. (It's also a bit over-powered in Epic games if it just flies around as a greater-Decimator.) Moreover, undocking has interesting applications.
Tactically, mixed fighters would be ideal. It would be very cool to have a Title that allowed that. A bomber, an interceptor, and two standard TIE would be great for any mission.
Now, tactically it's an inefficient design to only carry 4 carriers anyway!
But man do I love the model, the campaign it comes with, and the new TIE pilots and Huge ship upgrade cards.
It makes me scared for the future Scum & Villainy Huge ships, because while I don't like S&V particularly, I love the Huge models and they come with great cards!

My understanding of the fluff is that the Gozanti is actually an armed merchant ship that was modified and introduced as a TIE shuttle (Not the TIE Shuttle, now
).
So it makes perfect sense that you lose cargo space to turn it into a carrier; the docking clamps were modifying the baseline vessel's cargo capabilities.
It makes no sense at all that they demanded uniformity. Hell, even the canon deciption of one (Rebels) does exactly that. I'd been assuming it was going to be a rules exception via title, but it never came with such. Go fig.
The biggest rip about docking clamps is it takes a slot!
Nah it's biggest failing is you can't dock defenders.
I imagine that all four are from the same wing. It's rare to mix types in a wing.
Since getting my Gozanti, I had to have 4 matching bombers... so I bought 2 more. Just saying...

Yeah, Tarkin (I think) came up with the idea. Gozantis are cheap to build/buy, don't really require much crew, and can put _some_ Imperial presence into place rather quickly.
It's also a nice deterrent to Pirates, if they don't know which of the convoys will have a few TIE fighters in toe.
Thematically, 3-4 of them are a great compliment to a couple Raiders. The Raider can do the heavy work against a Rebel/pirate base, the Gozantis drop the fighter suppression. More flexibility than a Star Destroyer, and probably cheaper.

I would say vastly cheaper than a SD. The supplemental craft alone would cost more than a handful of gozantis and a raider. The SD carries 6 squadrons of TIEs plus shuttles, transports and landing craft. It takes 3 Gozanti just to carry one full squadron of TIEs! The SD is also 10 times as long as the raider and roughly 1000 times the volume, so probably 1000 times the cost of the corvette.

Pretty much exactly this.

As you can see, the civilian Gozanti stores cargo crates in pretty much the same area the docking clamps would be on the Imperial version.

Tricky thing, balance. Emperor Palpatine routinely wins back triple his own points, but apparently an X-Wing with IA and Guidance Chimps is too unbalancing to even contemplate.
Maybe it's more about accounting balance than game balance: I'd love to drop a TIE Adv. Prototype from a Gozanti, but to get the most out of that combo I need four of the little buggers.
I think it's also has something to do with how the ships physically dock to the model. Tie fighters panels are to long front to back for a tie interceptor or advanced to fit. Same for the advanced and interceptor and the tie fighter. I'd also like to gush at the fact that the fighter models actually attach to the carrier model, I absolutely love it.

Some of what they do makes sense, some is nonsensical.

Ooh. Can you confirm with pictures, if you own one?
If it's a "We have trouble fitting Interceptors and Advanceds on the model simultaneously" I will become much more sympathetic to their design choices. ![]()
(I really wanted to attach a pair of Fighters, an Interceptor, and an Advanced. Wah!)

Considering that Bombers don't fit at all on the clamps, this would not be a valid reason ![]()
Do
Do you not?!
