Rumor is that Netflix is developing a new voltron series.
Cards can only refference what already exists. Not what is yet to come.
The pictures on said cards on the other hand.........
Going by "Old" fluff, Pilots were grouped and assigned by squadron, and each squadron only flew a single ship type (Imperials, anyway). So you have 12 TIE Pilots, 12 Bomber Pilots, or 12 Interceptor Pilots making up a squadron.
It makes a lot more sense to assign a Flight (4 Pilots, 2 Wing Pairs) from a single squadron, who know each other, have previously worked hundreds of hours together in simulators, and so on, rather than single pilots from multiple squadrons who don't know each other, flying craft of differing capabilities, when you're trying to engage in combat.
That plus the maintenance aspect, as has been pointed out. You only need the tools, spare parts, and trained technicians for one type of fighter, rather than two or three.
Also, doesn't it just look cooler and more Imperial to have 4 of the same, rather than a mixed bag?

Only exception to that I'd say would be the permanent personal craft of high ranking individuals... aka Vader, Tarkin, the grand inquisitor etc.... who have a sqn assigned as escorts....
be a nice title upgrade - this vessal may change one TIE/Ln, FO, Adv for a single unique small based Imperial craft
I suspect that the "All attached ships must have the same ship type" rule will be frequently house-ruled away in many casual, non-tournament Epic games. I know I'm not planning on buying enough extra Bombers or Advanced to have four of them.
I also agree with the person upthread who suggested that the ruling has more to do with FFG's economics (ie. encourage us to buy more ships) than it does with game balance. And I'm not blasting FFG for that choice, since getting us to buy ships is how they make money. And anyone who has the original core and the Gozanti, which should be just about everyone who buys a Gozanti, will have four basic TIE Fighters to attach. I think they purposefully packaged it so almost everyone will have a set of four matching TIEs "out of the box". But if you want to attach things other than basic TIE fighters, and you want to use all four clamps, then you'll need* to buy more ships. Well that or ignore the "same type" rule.
*Yes, I know some of you already have four of everything. So you won't need to buy more.

My question would be "Who is a high enough rank to merit their own special fighter, but not worthy of commanding their own Star Destroyer, even a Victory?"
But it's just a casual thing, I'm sure there are scenarios when we can narrate why Lorrir or someone is in command of a Gozanti. ![]()

In Rebels series, The Inquisitor often is on a special mission and use a Gozanti to get there. So having him in his Tie Advanced Prototype escorted by 3 tie fighter should be allowed ![]()

Exactly. If the Imperials want Interceptors and Bombers in a fight, they'll send a Gozanti with each.
That said, I think gameplay balance is the answer. By using different ships, you can have a jack of all trades Gozanti that can launch bombers to take on huge ships or fighters to take on small. By forcing the player to only use a single type of fighter, it forces the Gozanti to be more one dimensional forcing the player to choose up front how he wants to use it.
Plus, it's always easier to ease restrictions (via new cards or rules changes) than it is to create new restrictions.
If you have any trouble with attaching any ship to a Gozanti docking clamp, try a bit of blu-tac.
I have broken the attachment point of several ships and now they have no attachment point at all. I just pinch a little blu-tac onto the TIE and then pinch the tie onto the inside of the docking clamp. It comes right off (both the ship off the Gozanti and the blu-tac off the docking clamp).
It's actually easier than fitting into the docking clamp attachment in the first place.

Which is kinda why I expected it to be a title, I think. I can see the issue with hand-picked squads on every ship in massive Epic games, but a single ship with a bespoke collection would've been more reasonable - especially if this came at the cost of one of the other, more mechanically dramatic, titles.
But they didn't, so we haven't. Then again, I can't see it being too hard to homebrew something appropriate. What's the Rebels gozanti's name, again?

So, basically, make up whatever you like.
