Can anyone help with some questions about raider campaign?

By Krynn007, in X-Wing Rules Questions

We've played a few games of epic since the cr90 has been released, but one thing we've never done is any campaign from any of the expansion, so this will be our first one.

Now I Maybe over thinking some things, so bare with me, but going over the campaign some question popped in my head

1) I assume since it is not stated that the raider and it's upgrades start with 0 energy.

2) In the first campaign it states that if the raider or Tempest squadron pilots destroy two or more Rebel ships they get a bonus in next round.

At first I thought it had to be Tempest A or B but looking at the progress sheet there are only 2 check boxes for the one Tempest.

So is that shared between them?

I think so, but just want to make sure

If Tempest A and Tempest B both destroy 1 ship Then that objective has been completed and now they get bonus next round?

3) On the first page under before each mission it says build squads. Each player builds the squad they will use in the forthcoming mission.

Can't use ships or upgrades used in the progress sheet.

Each mission describes it's additional squad building rules in detail.

What I'm not seeing here is how many points so we use?

In the mission set up the Rebel player gets 100 pts but the Empire only has the raider and two tempest.

Are we to build additional squads along with what is suggested?

If so how many?

The Rebel player already has 100 pts worth. The Empire only has 3 ships.

Just little confused on this part.

4) After each mission you must report casualties of unique pilots and upgrades destroyed.

So again anything that is not suggested gets in the mission set up gets written down.

So if I lose my two Tempest that first round, I don't count them?

Again I'm wondering where does the rest of the unique pilots come from?

5) After reading the rules and etc I know that if a unique pilots Vader for example If he gets destroyed he cannot be used in the next mission.

I guess the thing obviously most confused on is how many point for unique pilots do each side get and how many points are we allowed for each campaign on top of what the mission set up.

Do we come up with 200 pts of ships each, and then choose 50 pts for the first game for example?

Rebel player mission set up says 100 squad pts.

Meanwhile the Empire gets two Tempest

Do we decide extra squad value?

50 pts? 75 pts?

So rebels get 150 and empire gets two Tempest plus 50?

Or is it just what the mission says

Rebels get 100

Imps get two Tempest

Rebel player uses Luke, but Luke dies. So he writes that on the list?

From now on he cannot use Luke in any of the campaign.

Since Luke is unique.

I lose two Tempest so nothing is written down since they are not unique

And same with upgrades.

Proton torpedoes are not unique so don't write that down if it was on Luke, but experiment interface was on a ship destroyed so that gets written down?

Actually now that I've typed this all out I think that's the way it goes (helps writing this down lol)

I'm sorry probably some dumb questions lol, had surgery today so brain is pretty sluggish lol

Thanks for your help guy and gals

I don't have the mission book, but I did play the first mission of the Raider campaign, so I'll answer as well as I can.

1) Yes, that's how we played it.

2) Right, you're just tracking how many kills the Raider gets versus how many the Tempests get between the two of them.

3) No, you should just be bringing the squad that each mission tells you to build. For the Rebels in the first mission, that's 100 points of whatever they want. The Imperials are more restricted since they're sort of the protagonists of the campaign, so for the first mission they should only be using the Raider with some specific hardpoint upgrades and a title of their choice, and two Tempests with Cluster Missiles (if I'm remembering right). You'll notice, though, that that's over 150 points for the Imperial squad. That's balanced by the fact that the Rebels don't need to wipe out the Imperials in the first mission, just destroy the Tempests and escape.

4) I'm not sure if I understand your question, but you only write down losses on the progress sheet when a unique pilot or upgrade is destroyed. After the first mission or two, I believe that the Imperials start getting more squad-building freedom, so they'll have the opportunity to bring unique pilots to the missions as well.

5) There isn't a squadron roster that you build before the campaign and draw your mission squads from, if that's what you're asking. The progress sheet is meant to be a very simple way to simulate that sort of thing. So if Luke is destroyed, you write that down to remember that he can't be used again for the rest of the campaign, but you can keep bringing more Rookie Pilots and Gold Squadron Pilots no matter how many get shot down. And you don't have to use the same pilots you brought on previous missions - if you like, you can use a different set of unique pilots on every mission of the campaign.

Or is it just what the mission says
Rebels get 100
Imps get two Tempest

That all looks right to me, I think you've got the idea.

Well thanks for taking the time to read and respond

Really appreciate it.
