Rancor in the next wave?
Edited by mazz0Don't know how this is evidence of that. We've had Palpatine on a command card since the game released and he hasn't been included as a figure (yet).
Images on command cards don't count for *expletive.* I think a rancor is inevitable but I don't think it's any more likely to come in the near future now than it was not that long ago.
If it comes out, which is likely, it will be in the Return to Jedi tie in Core Set in order to increase sales of what would then be their Third large Core Box at $99. Likely after their Bespin expansion.
I mean, Return of the Jedi is the first time we saw that thing, so I would say it's highly likely.

What?
They didn't wait till RtH to introduce IG-88, Probe Droids, AT-STs, Trandoshans, and E-webs yet those are the first time we see those is in Empire Strikes Back. They didn't wait to introduce Royal Guards till a 'Return of the Jedi' expansion.

All true.
However, of everything you listed, I'm guessing the Rancor tops them all in terms of demand. It would be prudent of them to wait until a later edition Core Set in order to offer it as a selling point.
As far as the AT-ST is concerned, I think that was also a wise marketing move in order to prop up the demand for the original Core Set. Yes, we don't see them until Empire, but what else are you going to put in there in order to make a strong opening? Banthas?
Yes please. That's all I have to say. Thank you for your time.
Well, if they have a rancor in a core set, that might be an opening for a other force using hero. Rancor-Dathomir-Nightsisters. Everything seems focused through the lens of the Jedi/Sith conflict. There are plenty of other space wizard traditions out there ![]()

Apologies to Sam, but God I hope not.
One of the things I very much disliked about the direction that Star Wars took in it's last few iterations was the notion that EVERYTHING had to come down to the Force. It's one of the reasons I love the OT so much. It was rare. But the prequels, Clone Wars, every video game since, it's all about the Jedi/Sith. I was really looking forward to 1313 and reminisce about the X-Wing and TIE Fighter games. But I digress.
I love the fact that, through all this, there is Vader and there is Diala and Luke. That's it for Force Users, and I'm happy at that. Please FFG, do not turn this game into the 237th iteration of Jedi vs Sith (in whatever connotation you wish to name the "evil dark side force users", Dathomir or otherwise). We've been shown all too often how incredibly easy it is to come up with more and more powerful Force abilities to the point where it becomes a detriment to play anything else. I never wish to see "Check out my Rebel Force User list."

I agree. The conflict between the two sides of the force is a necessary part of the universe that makes it "Star Wars", but it should be in the background. When the original trilogy first came out, everyone talked about Luke and Vader, but everyone wanted to be Han and Boba.

What?! I'd take the magic powers over the Millennium Falcon any day!
Let me try again. What I meant to say was "BEFORE everything was focused through the lens if the jedi/sith conflict". The universe is much bigger, and before Lucas lasered down the focus to Force or Nothing, there was a myriad of magical traditions across the universe that the Jedi were merely one of. The Talisman of Panna, the Talisman of the Raven, the Kaibirr Crystal, the Ewok shamanic traditions, there was so much outside of the jedi/sith trope. I want to see something that isn't just another Jedi.
I think the idea of the Rebels vs the Dark Side would be cool. Not Jedi vs Sith, but something like the Imperials dug up an ancient sith relic on Dathomir and are trying to get it offworld but the rebel heroes are sent to stop them. Maybe during one mission the relic lures the nightsisters and their rancor (and for IA's sake nexu) pets and soon you have a 3 way fight going for the sith relic.
The Jedi are mostly dead in the OT, lets leave it like that. This is the time of the Dark Side and everyday heroes.
Edited by patrickmahanI much prefer normal guys to the constant hokey religions and ancient weapons.
To make a really good story, you need motivation for the characters.
The Force motivates the heroes and the heroes motivate the average people.
Please let that be a guide to how you populate the story (game).
Oh, and I'm not a big fan of Rancor as a game figure.
Yeah, it's cool, but it was not a major element in the overall story and really huge characters are awkward in the game.
I just don't see it as a special part of an army.
As for the other beasts, I didn't even know what a Nexu was...
Wampa is recognizable, but I'm kind of indifferent, right now. Meta is not my focus.
I just have a hard time (thematically)seeing them as forces in battle, that's all.
I'll play them occasionally, but I'm not going to run out and grab them.
Same with the Bantha. At least it is mentioned in the movies that they were used by the Tuskens in there raiding parties... So that may entice me at some point.
I guess I'm more of a purest with the narrative.

The force is one of many motivating factors and has far less broad appeal to people in universe than many others (of the IA heroes only Diala could reasonably be said to be motivated by the force). It shouldn't be ignored but given the timeline it shouldn't be high on the list of influences on the plot.
I feel that there's room for some more force stuff in IA but not a great deal of it.
Edited by NorgrathYes, Norgath. You are right. I should have said the Force motivates some heroes.
I don't know anything about the other things that drive the universe in Star Wars.
If good story lines can be developed that fit into the existing theme, I'm all for it.
I like a deep and rich background to any narrative.
Thats exactly my point. It'd be normal guys (rebels) vs normal guys (imperials) fighting over the sith artifact. Not Jedi vs Sith fighting over it. It makes it so the rebels are dealing with an unknown, adding a whole new level of danger.
Think of something like Forces of Corruption, that had a sith relic/holocron as a major plot device, yet that game had nothing to do with the jedi vs sith conflict.
Edited by patrickmahanMight not be a popular opinion, but I'd be all over well balanced characters who wielded the force. As long as they were not overpowered, having the option of space wizards and rancors would be just fine.
I agree I doubt I'd use it very often, just as I don't currently use AT-STs very often, but I still want it!
If we want lots of force users then the obvious solution is prequel era time periods and characters (and to a lesser extent Force Awakens era).
I don't know anything about the other things that drive the universe in Star Wars.
Sure you do. I am positive that many others can give hundreds of examples, but there's always the overall evil and oppressive Galactic Empire bearing down on the little guys who finally pick up and fight back as the Rebel Alliance. Just think of the billions of atrocities that are committed on a daily basis, everything from small time extortion up to genocide/planetcide.
If good story lines can be developed that fit into the existing theme, I'm all for it.

I don't think you're going to find many arguing that.

Hate to break it to you, but there is zero doubt a rancor will be in this game... most likely part of an expansion too. If Banthas are in this (which did literally nothing in the movies but stand there.) then I'm certain a giant monster that 'fought' Luke will be.

I wouldn't worry if I were Lord Vapor, they probably won't see much play. Like he said, the huge bases are too much faff to use - even if they're tactically strong they're not that much fun to play with.
The rancor is arguably the most popular creature in Star Wars.
My favorite is the tauntaun though. Nagl! Nagl!
