Need help crafting a swarm for store championships

By MediumPotato, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I’ve been trying to craft an ace+mini TIE swarm that I like for several months now and have not quite landed on something I’m totally sold on. The last two builds I’ve had have both included the standard Soontir (PTL, Title, AT and Stealth Device) plus either 5x Obsidians or 3x Epsilons +Hownrunner with either crackshot or VI.

I’m totally hitting a brick wall. I’m tempted to just go with 5x Omegas with Predator and be done with it.

Any suggestions? Need to get ready for a store tourney on Saturday.

Thanks guys!

Crackshot is your lord and master now

Black squadron crackshot is the building block of every swarm related enterprise, with Omega crackshot filling in some much needed durability and maneuverability where the points are available

A legit 6 ship swarm will be either 3 black cracks + 3/omega cracks (personally prefer with one crackrunner because my dice are ass)

Or OL (juke + relay) 4 crackblacks and a Wampa

Omega leader Juke Comms relay

Tempest title AC

Colzet title AC

2x Cracksquads.

comes out to 100 even

Six crack shots means buying 6x kihraxz fighters right? I know this is the calculus we have to make when playing this game, but hot **** that's a lot of money for a swarm build (albeit a premium one).

The next time I run soontir (I've been giving him a bit of a rest, so many other stuff to try!), it will be alongside three Omegas w/ crack & comms. They are the same cost as accuracy corrector tempests, but basically they offer more potent early game damage, have the same durability thanks to comm relay and a much better dial. And they even get better Pilot Skill. Poor, poor generic advanceds! Just when I thought they were competitive, they got pushed back onto the shelf... :(

(not topic related but Fel Related)

Last time i ran fel was at my FLGS

Fel with the trimmings 35 points

Vader

Crackshot

PRockets

title ATC

(not quite but soon Guidence Chimps)

with OL comms Juke and SD

it put in work, only ship that died (RIP OL) after 6 rounds of fire, flew against AC Swarm tempests, but OL shuts that down.... but green dice were green dice after all.

it's 6 unpronounceable fighters - 1 for every card you can borrow

You also get a crackshot in each hound's tooth.

I can attest to the strength of the 3x Black Squadron, 3x Omega Squadron, 6x Crackshot list. Howl goldbricks the list, you want to fly in a loose blob and the omegas are durable and maneuverable. Howl just dies ASAP.

Yeah, I've experienced the Howl early death twice now.

When you say loose blob, are you taking about two groups or one big well-spaced group?

Large, well spaced formation. It saves you from Assault Missiles and anti-swarm spacing of obstacles.

I just went 3-1 in a store tournament in Chattanooga with:

Howlrunner

Mauler Mithel

Backstabber

Academy Pilot x4

16 people, I went 3-1, got 3rd... The last game was my loss (very close game), and I literally think it was just mental fatigue because I caught myself making a few dumb mistakes that if I hadn't I could (should) have easily won...

If you can't afford a crackshot swam, this one is pretty good... Howlrunner and the Academies set up in a 3x2 formation to one side while Mithel and Backstabber come up (preferably) the middle as flankers... I got Mithel and Backstabber a few flanking range 1 shots in a couple of games, that's 4 dice each... You can't ignore them, and you can't ignore the swarm, so your opponent either splits their forces (win for you) or focuses on one target group (also win for you)...

It was cool going in there against everyone else with only Wave 1 cards and cleaning up the place...

Wave 1 cards that are worth a *****

One well spaced group. Set them up in a formation, and turn 1 have them do varied straight maneuvers and barrel rolls to spread out.

won my store championship with:

standard Fel

2X omega+crackshot

wampa

chaser

And what obstacles do you chose for this list?

I normally go with the 3 smallest asteroids possible. But I'm thinking of changing it to debris fields, idk.

debris are neat, especially with FOs

man, is it difficult to find a ship that gives less of a **** about debris than a FO (Dash excepted, ofc)

Been toying with trying to run this swarm:

"Youngster" + Marksmanship + Stealth Device (21SP)

Black Squadron Pilot + Veteran Instincts (x5, 15SP)

TOTAL: 96SP

___

(not quite but soon Guidence Chimps)

Such a primitive upgrade...

I think you mean primative*

no it's not an actual word

Is it just points you had so you spent them? Give one or two of them Predator. It will even make Youngster less of a no brainier target. And definitely give Youngster a Shield instead of Stealth. Better to absorb the hit than rely on those green dice.

What's the point in PS6 Black Squadron pilots? They already out-PS TLT and Swarm pilots. It doesn't push them to the level of ace pilots. And it's way less effective than their preferred Crackshot.

There are certainly better EPTs to make them more combat effective, but a 6 ship PS6 swarm would be pretty easy to maneuver and control.
